  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

We meant as of 2020.

Many of the decks you've listed wouldn't really qualify as being extraordinarily rare.  For example, there are many more rare decks out there than the red Fontaines.  The Create Magic deck from David Blaine is not even close.

Try looking at Kings Wild Productions.  They have a LOT of rare decks, printed in numbers as low as a few hundred.  And Lotrek, who makes his own decks, often has print runs of under two hundred.  Uusi has made gilded editions of many of their decks - I don't think any of them were made in quantities of more than 75 or 50.  These all make those other decks look downright common in comparison.

That's interesting I'll have to take a look at some of the decks mentioned. Most of the sources we found online didn't mention these names. I guess some of them are so rare, not very many people talk about them. I may write a second post about some of the decks you mentioned in the future.
Thanks for the suggestions,

There are LARGE numbers of decks out there that have very, very short print runs.  Many are indeed so short, you may never hear of them unless you turn over every rock on the Internet, and even then you aren't guaranteed of finding them.  It's one of the reasons why the Hochman Encyclopedia stops tracking US-made playing cards by around 1950.  There's just too many of them out there, a good number of which get little to no publicity or advertising whatsoever.

Don is quite correct.

With all due respect, the article seems quite out of touch with the playing card collector's market, and is only looking at some well known brands/names.

There are many far more rare decks, many of which you will rarely ever see on eBay given how much in demand they are.  The fact that all these decks even have multiple copies for sale on eBay confirms that they aren't that rare.

Also, the article appears to confuse price with rarity.  Price is largely driven by supply and demand, and not necessarily rarity.  There are many far more rare decks that might not fetch figures as high as the original Fontaine decks, for example, which are largely driven by the "name brand" effect.
