To be more accurate, if you can't afford a piece of art that you do actually want, you live without it, or you settle for a photograph, replica, reproduction, etc. The AIPs are valued at the point they are because people are willing to pay that much and the artist wants fair compensation for his time, effort and expense. If you want to haggle over it, go to a flea market or bid on eBay.
Let's face it - practically everyone here who was knocking the piece on price would sleep with a pig (or something similar) if it meant getting one for free... They want them. (Y'know, "What would you do for a Klondike bar?")
