Hiya Gang!

Every now and then I roll through Google to see what's what- and I just stumbled across these forums. Holy Smokes- you guys know your playing cards! It's absolutely awesome to see a group that is so passionate about their art and that also has the knowledge to go with it. Sheer epicness.

So, if you have a second, I'd love to introduce myself: My name is Jamie D. Grant and I make those impossible bottles that some of you may have seen on David Blaine's, Theory's, De'Vo's, Elussionist's, or my site. Basically, it's like a ship in a bottle, but with a deck of playing cards. I sell them on my site and I also leave them on the street for people to find, via my Send Wonder Campaign (it's hard to believe I've left almost a thousand out there). And for those of you that have seen one before, I know that the topic of price has probably come up. So, if I can, I'd love to touch base on that...

I know that a hundred buck is a lot of moohlah- I totally get that. And I also know that it's hard to understand the time and dedication that it takes into making one as, for the most part, not many people know all that it entails other than myself. So let me say that it's not a production line kind of thing. From driving to the dairy to all the moments until the end are done by no one except me. But even all of that is pretty much worthless...

Because it's not the act of putting a deck into a bottle that has value but the hope of putting the impossible into a visual form. And that's exactly what all of you do. Whether it's flourishing, magic, or even displaying, you're putting yourself out there to bring people a sense of inspiration, joy, and wonder. So how much is that worth? For me, it's worth everything. And I hope it is for you, as well. Because from the moment you pick up a deck of playing cards to the time that someone looks at you with admiration is a lifetime of effort. It's not the cut they're seeing but the work it took to get there. It's not the flourish that's the art but, rather, you. You are the joy. You are the inspiration. You are the wonder. Don't ever sell yourself short because, whether you tell them or not, people can sense what you're worth. And you're worth everything. That's how I've always felt about it, anyways.

Okay, too much rambling on my part, lol. Thanks for taking the time and I totally look forward to learning from all of you!

My best,

jamie

It's an honor to have you here Jamie! You do some incredible work. The leaving the bottles around project sounds really cool (I've done some similar art projects myself), I'll have to look into that. I would love to learn more about how you do it. Hope to see you post around a bit!!

Thanks for stopping by!

You presence here is a nice surprise to say the least! ;)
Thats was a pretty impressive intro, probably the longest we've seen in a while, if not ever. I do hope you'll enjoy your time here, and do participate in the conversations, we would certainly appreciate it!

Hey Jamie! Welcome to the boards.

First off, I'd like to say that I think your bottles are adequately priced. I view your work as a form of art, and art is a form of bragging rights. A collection of your AIP bottles make an astounding conversations starter. I think we all figured out how to get a deck inside of one of those bottles by now, but to do it with the cellophane intact? Your work baffles me.

I'd love to see you create some AIP bottles with vintage decks inside. I know I would be all over something like that. Timeless history trapped inside of a bottle? Yes please.

Keep up the excellent work, and I hope we get to see you around the forums in the future. Your insight would be fantastic. :)

Hi Jamie,

It is awesome to have you here! I love you AIP Bottles although I don`t own any myself I am going to get one eventually :)
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

Why does the image of Alex conversing with Jamie make me think of a vortex in an AIP? Hmmmmm.....

It's fantastic to see you here, Jamie, and I'm glad you came by.  I've had the debate before, about AIPs and other works of art, in terms of the value they have, but I don't think I've ever expressed my position quite as well as you did here.

I'm going to attempt talking my fiancee into getting me an AIP (probably the White Lions) as a Valentine's Day gift!  I'd love to own one, even it was was the humble Bicycle Rider Back deck!

It's impossible to put a deck of sealed cards in a bottle man. It doesn't fit

Wow, thanks for such an awesome welcome! It's exactly that kind of attitude that brings people back- you guys (and gals) are doing everything right!

And, just to show that I can represent the decks as much as the next guy, lol, here's a shot going downstairs into my office...

You guys are awesome,

Ha, I wouldn't even be able to buy one ;)

I've actually tried Jerry's before but wasn't happy with how they turned out. And I was only willing to go through a dozen before throwing in the towel. Maybe I should revisit them, though.

My favourite deck, though, is in that bottle you see in the pic. It's a rare 1960's Ripley's Believe It Or Not deck. I've only seen less than a dozen in my life.

Lol, what a great question. I have no idea, lol! Let me go look...

There's maybe around thirty here? They drive my wife crazy. One of my favourites wasn't even made by me but was a gift from Danial Madison...

It was a sort of joke (because the glass is obviously broken and glued) but it means the world to me. Especially since the inscription reads, "Thanks for the inspiration."

What are some other good ones... How about this one I made for Bill Kalush and the CARC...

You can't see very well, but it has a copy of Erdnase on one side and a Green CARC deck on the backside with the glass case etched with the front page from Expert.

_____________________________________________

As for how many I've made- it's around a couple thousand now. And you know at the end of the day, I still love the original Blue Deck Bicycle AIP. They're the ones I leave on the street for the Send Wonder campaign and just have a certain feel that I'll always love. Always a sucker for the first, I reckon.

Gotta run!
