If I could pick one deck and it would only be for display and not for resale I would get the JAQK deck or the S&M v5. Both of those are awesome decks!!

Or maybe the Tungstene deck

That is so awesome, lol. Thank you so much! (I'm working on it this weekend, by the way).

And let me shout out a huge THANK YOU to all of you so far! You are one of the most welcoming gangs I've ever met/read. And, I'll be honest, it goes a looooooooong way to bringing people back. I hope I can offer you some insight along the way, as well.

On that note, I wonder what everyone here thinks of something I've been working on for a while? It's not finished yet (this is just the prototype/working model) but I'm getting close. I call it The VAULT, and it's a new style card guard/case...

Gotta run! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

My best,

I'm just going to be honest here. I don't like the design of that clip. Showing just a small, random section of the deck? Its not my style but many others may like it.
Also, I remember you posting something on Facebook about it being made from brass. But isn't brass not a very strong metal?

Thanks for the input! I absolutely love to hear everyone's thoughts and I respect them completely.

The gauge of brass I'm using is more than strong enough to protect the box. No worries there. As for the design- that will all come down to personal preference- and I appreciate yours! I love it, though. It just feels super smooth. Work with whatever inspires you, I reckon!

My best,

jamie

I really like the design from an aesthetic point of view, but functionally, I'm not sure.  How do you get the deck out?  There's nothing to grab on to.  I keep decks in regular Ellusionist stainless card clips and Porper card clips and I leave the cellophane (bottom part) on them.  To get them out I just pull on the top and bottom of the deck.  I feel like with the presented design, the only way to get them out would be to apply upward pressure on the face of the deck.  For me, this seems like it would quickly tear the cellophane off a deck, but I could be wrong.
They say the greatest trick the devil ever pulled, was convincing the world that he didn't exist.

you can use your thumb to grab the short edge and push out the other side.
i think the center groove is big enough so your thumb can fit in there as it is sliding out the deck

Hmm... IMHO, it may be less desirable for me. The problem is I live in a tropical location that tends to... well, inflate cards. Despite all precautions that we do, the deck that we use(which are the ones that we usually use the card clips for) absorbs moisture faster in tropical areas than other places that has drier climates. My point is, we already have a hard time as it is in getting cards out of porpers and normal card clips so i believe it is going to be hell getting decks out of those.
Good luck though and more power.  :)
I prefer hand written signatures over digital ones but the ink appears to be stuck on my monitor screen...

That is AWESOME looking!! I really like it! I can easily say that I would grab a couple of those if you ended up producing them. I can see how some people may not like that you can see much of the deck, but I like how it keeps it almost hidden. Overall I love the design and would love to see this become a reality.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

Jamie, I like this clip design.  The biggest issue I've ever had with a deck clip (aside from it being too tight to hold certain decks) is the fact that the protection level offered the box is very low - three sides are exposed.  Porper Clips help with the warped-cards issue, but they're more difficult to use and totally ruin boxes, embossed ones in particular.  This design looks like it would firmly hold my deck, only the top and bottom of the tuck box is exposed, warping is minimized because both side edges of the cards are getting held down by the clip, and it just looks cool.

My one suggestion - forgo the little slits in the back unless they serve a specific functional purpose.  Make the front available as plain or engraved/silkscreened with deck box images, like the front of a pack of Tally Ho, Bicycle, Bee, etc. (assuming USPC would sign off on that without asking for your firstborn son).  I just think the surface would look cooler as either a big blank slate or something that could be decorated without the central break the slits create.

As far as custom wrappings, a la Dan and Dave, don't go too crazy.  Leather, nice.  Carbon fiber, cool.  Crazy stuff like expensive leathers, or CORK - noooooooooo...

You might even be able to work with a skin manufacturer like ZAGG to allow people to create custom skins with whatever images they want.  It would be no different than making a skin for an iPhone, a Blackberry, etc.  Now THAT gives the clip versatility - sell the "blanks" with a coupon code for one free skin from ZAGG, and people can choose others while they're there to suit whatever mood they happen to be in that week.

Love the idea of the clip, I like trying clips out and would definitely be happy to own one, it would be nice if they were available in black. I look forward to seeing the finished product and welcome to the forums.

Those two little slits in the clip really give this one character. They may not be super practical but they make this deck a real seller in my mind. Im hoping those don't get tossed!!

I really like the look of that clip a lot, and would love to get my hands in one!

Also, I was looking at my deck collection, and I realized that an AIP bottle with an IAOCP deck inside would look SICK!

Anything is possible - except making a Merz67 deck look good!  Not even if you had it sitting in Angelina Jolie's lap while she posed naked.  An AIP bottle couldn't improve that one bit, especially some of the butt-uglier ones like the Tie-Dye; the Red, White & Blue series; the Zebra deck...

Okay we get that you don't like Merz decks! You've mentioned it in so many threads and it's getting old.

Honestly, if anybody could do it. Jamie could.

You mentioned that the bottle could make a bad deck look good.  I just begged to differ on that opinion, nothing more.  I'm sure there are many other ugly tuck boxes out there that would be equally as bad.  A plie of "leavings" will still look and smell the same, no matter where you put it.  The bottle would just contain the smell.

Hiya Gang!

Great thoughts, suggestions, and ideas regarding the Vault. I'm just getting the final exterior print finished up and am hoping it rocks! I won't be doing a bunch of different versions, though, just the brass with the design (which is a surprise) on the outside.

With regards to the 2 slits- they're actually there for 2 reasons. One is aesthetic: For some reason, I just like the look and it feels more like a Vault to me (like coins are going in, maybe, lol). The second is so that, if desired, you could perform a magic trick I invented, Industrial Revelation, while it's still inside:

Thanks again for all the kindness!

Your pal,

jamie

I'm glad this is going to see the light of day! I'm also glad you're keeping the slits. I also saw the aesthetics appeal of them. I think those that weren't as big of a fan of those will be glad to find out that they serve a purpose. I'm sure that trick you've come up with will be truly amazing. Thanks for the update!
