Poll

What is your opinion regarding the extra card w/credits?

Regular backs on both, credits on one in small print, AC ad on the other.
Credits on both sides of one in medium-sized print, AC ad on the other with regular back.
Credits on three sides in regular print, AC ad on the fourth.
I really couldn't give a flying fig and have no opinion - do what thou wilst.
I want something different, and I'll describe it in a post below...

It would have to be black and white to keep it a 1-way back. Besides that it doesn't look bad.

???  Just realized the colors need to be the same on both sides... Just need to add the image in the background and wondering what to do with the edges - Do i fade them out or add a background?
Try black and white. Just to see what it looks like because I don't really like the rainbow too much.

Hey guys,

nathan, i am working on my ace but I cant put up pictures until my new laptop comes in tommorow or monday sorry about that, and I was busy all day so I wasnt posting here. I am making it so it looks like a heart that has been broken in half and sewed back together. Also My name is Aaron Wales and I dont think we should have a 1-way back.

EDIT: I just saw that back design and I think it looks pretty sweet. That added Discourse in red looks really cool!

I like it, but the problems I find are:
1) There aren't enough variations between white and black (different shades of gray)
2) Some of the words are cut off and aren't continued in the next line.

Where can I fin the custom pip so I can personalize it?
Also, can all of our pips be different and placed in different places?

hey guys, i wanna help too, not good with design so if there's anything else that i can do, put me down. the names on the back is a good idea but im not sure if black and white would look good. it looks fine if u're just looking at one card but if u have a bunch of them i.e. when you fan them, it could look very disorienting, especially without a border. there might be a better colour combo for it imo.

The red "discourse" is a great idea! We should definitely keep it.
As for the edges, as much as I love stinger edges, I don't think it'd fit what we have so far.
With the way you have it, the image in the background could be white, with thin black edges on the names. I like the black and white scheme with the red for Discourse. :P   You could experiment with other colors than red, though; how about a soft apple green? Or a deep purple?
2) Some of the words are cut off and aren't continued in the next line.

You think that's a bad thing? It's what makes the design interesting IMO. If it's cut off on one line, it'll be fully visible somewhere else in the design. No big deal.

#1 - I doodled this in 5 minutes haha, I'll take a lot more care and time into the actual design.
#2 - I like the names being cut off, like I said, I'd repeat the names more than once. If I didn't cut them off, the edges wouldn't be straight and clean looking.
#3 - I tried the stroke on the names and it didn't look as clean as without the stroke... IDK.
#4 - I can definitely try different colors, red/black/white color scheme just happens to be my favorite  ::)

imo i think it would be better if the contrast between the two colours werent as high. because when u get a bunch of the cards together it'd be harder to look at. another thing might be to add some sort of a pattern to how the names are displayed to make it easier to read and easier to see if u have a bunch of the cards next to each other. the patterns will help differentiate one card from another and make it easier to see. a border would solve this problem but if there's no border then maybe make every line a different colour (not like a rainbow but just different colours) and in the line that has discourse in it leave it white with discourse in red. a border might be good also.

I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of the back design. Also, I think the back design and the ace of spades will be too similar, while the other cards will be drastically different.
But:
1) It's a start, and we can always change it later on.
2) Lets keep this momentum.
3) The deck is supposed to be crazy, so lets go all out!
4) anyways, if this works out, we can always do a #2! (probably not tho).

Please tell me this:
Where can I find the custom pips so I can personalize them?
Also, can all of our pips be different and placed in different places?

I actually think that the contrast looks cool. If you guys want, when we get te back finalized we could order one of those bicycle custom picture decks with the back design on it to see how they look. I believe they cost $15 instead of a $250 proto. and I really like the back so lets keep working with it! :)  Could you post a version with no borders?

I honestly didn't spend too much time on the back so I'm open to anything and everything. I like it, but that's just my style.

Also, Nathan - The AoS will have the signatures of people, not typed out clean font. It'll look very different IMO.

The stroke is only to avoid blending with the white image, a black stroke wouldn't be visible over the black background. :P

3) The deck is supposed to be crazy, so lets go all out!
As I said MANY times already, if the back is too crazy, it will take attention away from the faces. A simple back with crazy faces creates a nice contrast that is all the more crazy. :P

And the ace of speades doesn'T HAVE to be limited to signatures - it could have the signatures in the spade itself, and then an additional pattern around the spade. That would look great as well.

Derek, we don't have to go with it for the final design, but I really want to see what it looks like in other colors, especially apple green. Please? ;)

Haha I actually thought of using the foot as a reveal already, but in the original sketch the footprint was a 3 and the belly was a C for Clubs. :P
I'll try to do it like you said.
Fun fact: Everything besides the thread on the button eyes is only two separate shapes, one for the horse and one for the bear. ;)

Great Joker. I really enjoy the simplisticness of it. Will you still be doing the reveal in the blocks for the second joker.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

Suggestion, borrowed from the stripper deck I got last year:

On each card, the artist's name.  Make it print or signature, doesn't matter - whatever the artist wants, can even be a handle/signature/glyph or whatever else you use to sign your work.

Back - simple, tasteful pattern.  It makes the cards more playable/useable.  We want the focus on the front, and an elegant, classy back that doesn't steal focus from the front art.

One ad card - AetherCards; Alex's standard card.

The other ad card - THAT'S where you put all the names for credit.  Autographs if you like, print, both, whatever.  Use both sides of the card.  No symmetry issues because it's an ad card, never gets played.  If more space is needed, maybe Alex would permit the back of his ad card to have "page 3" of the credits.

I'm almost positive we wont be advertising Aethercards...unless I missed something.

If we have enough space on the credits card(sounds funny haha) it would be nice to have a QR code leading to the forum homepage!
