Poll

What is your opinion regarding the extra card w/credits?

Regular backs on both, credits on one in small print, AC ad on the other.
Credits on both sides of one in medium-sized print, AC ad on the other with regular back.
Credits on three sides in regular print, AC ad on the fourth.
I really couldn't give a flying fig and have no opinion - do what thou wilst.
I want something different, and I'll describe it in a post below...

I haven't been reading all the posts, but just to make sure, you guys are all developing via CMYK right? If not, simply switch your mode in Photoshop (Image>Mode>CMYK). If you switch, it may mess up some of the colors, but that's an easy fix. Make sure you opt out of flattening the image.

Ditto! Also, are you guys making sure to build your files with a resolution of at least 300 dpi? If Moon.exe is taking over Aaron's Ace of Hearts to make it look more plush, hopefully it's with the original CMYK hi res file!

thanks,
Randy

@Derek - The indexes aren't different colors, they're just different shades of black. If you play around with your screen a bit, you should be able to see them.
I don't know about the others, but I am using CMYK and 650 dpi.

I noticed that my name is still on the list. I mentioned twice that I couldn't help any longer because of time restraints with school and work and studies  :( It's a bummer to not be apart of such an amazing project, but you all deserve the best. I'm going to have fun following this one though every step of the way and giving my feedback when you need it!

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

  • Facebook:
@Nathan: I like the ideas, I still don't know if the second ten should be completely blurry? Also, are you trying to make some of your faces black and some white? Kind of like a reverse Artifice v1?

Also, here is a revision of my back - the D's can be switched to make it a two way back. For all you 'subtle one-way' back lovers, the red D in the middle makes it a subtle one way.

A one-way mark in the center of a card usually isn't subtle - it's noticeable.  I had someone spot the one-way on the Bicycle XXX deck seconds after they looked at it.  My suggestion: a truly subtle one way, or none at all.  Make the center "D" into a red dot, black dot, infinity symbol, four-pointed star, etc. and you can make this a true two-way deck.

For your question, yes, I am.
I really like that back, Derek! Can you just try moving the +s around so the red D is exactly in the corner. Please? Pretty please? I just think that it would just look so much nicer when fanning the cards. Other than that, I think it is perfect!

I agree on the red D's being pushed as far to the corners as possible.  Stretch the image a few percentage points while maintaining the "stinger-style" border.  Stretch the length in proportion to the width and the "structural integrity" of the image itself should not be too badly affected, especially since we're not talking about a huge change.  If width stretching becomes and issue, see what removing or adding some of the vertical or horizontal center lines of crosses does.  If the extra black "D" at the bottom is an issue when spelling DISCOURSE, just make it a black dot or something, or invert the bottom "D".

Pushing the red "D"s as far into the corner as possible gives you the opportunity to make some sweet-looking fans with this back design.

Regarding your 10's, Nathan, remember we're aiming for usability with the deck - having some cards print to the bleed and others not creates the problem of the bleed cards being distinctive in a squared-up deck to the point that you can point them out.  Since we're going with a white-bordered back and we want back and front to match, we should stick with a white-bordered front.  White works better I think, since everyone knows how quickly the edges of a black card get ruined with simple shuffling.

 :D I finished
Beautiful! They look really cool! But I just think the Q is a little weird looking. Looks like an odd 2...

Yeah I know what you're saying. I'll try to make it look more Queenish but widening the circle part and making the point closer.

Actually, you're still missing the "1" and "0" to make 10.

To improve the Q, try making a nearly-closed circle, with the gap where the line crosses the circle.  The line won't actually touch the circle and the design will be in line with what you're doing with the rest of the characters.

I'm really very impressed with how this entire group project is pulling together.  I've seen many similar projects simply get torn apart at the seams due to conflicting visions and egos, but you people are keeping it together and making something worthwhile out of it.  It's a real accomplishment.

Yes, there will be white borders on all of my tens. I just don't know how to add them. For the tens, does any one have feedback on how to make them better? I like my ten of diamonds but im not a huge fan of the other ones.
And thank you Don for explaining more clearly what I would like for the back design. You give great advice!

The jacks are still open if you'd like, since brown-baggs needed to leave this project.

Also, I can't believe that we all missed that I forgot to draw a 10   :-\

Nice Q and 10!

Here is a little something I made up. As more designs are completed  will add to it. I didn`t know where the kings went so i just threw them in wherever. If I missed anyones design tell me.
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

Thanks! I know what you mean about the Q, but I feel when it is on the court-card, and you visually see a queen, you wont think that at all. You know what I'm saying?

Holy moley! That is amazing! Very original. I have a couple of questions:
1) Would you be able to make the colors in the 6 pop out even more so we can differentiate this number from the others next to it?
2) are the holes in the corners for loldudex2 and Derek's pips and indexes?
3) How come there are only 5 spades at the bottom
Wow. Extremely great job!
