Holy cow those are gorgeous!! Is that a box within a box? All these pictures of the beautiful vintage decks really are incredible. Thanks for sharing them with us. I know that I don't have any plans of trying to collect vintage decks but it's still special to see of them and their incredible history and art.

WOW! Incredibly well preserved! However I'd think these are from some time between 1917 and 1919, dated from the tax stamp. Of course, that's only based on the box, the cards inside may be produced even earlier.

I didn't know they custom made these paper too! This is the first deck I've seen with wax paper besides those from USPCC! The USPCC ones are just plain brownish-yellow coloured, but this one is completely new to me.

Man how much did you pay for this? Must've costed a fortune!

Actually this was the 2 cent Act of 1894 Stamp, and it ran up till 1917, but I have it from a fairly reliable source that these were pre-1900... However, it is true that without cracking the seal I will never know for sure... Either way, It's Valentines Day and I'm in love... The cool thing is the interior wrapper is not wax paper, it's almost like a thick stock of newspaper... and sxjy, still not as much as all of those sick vintage decks you keep posting... hahaha...

If you look closely, the stamp is cancelled by N.Y.C.C.CO.. The Act of 1894 Stamp you mentioned are cancelled by U.S.P.C.CO.. I still think it's between 1917-1919 :D .

Maybe a few decks combined would mark up to the value of this deck, unless you hit on a sweet deal.

@jmrock, what does the overprint read??
@sxjy0109, NYCCC produced the deck, it should have been cancelled by NYCCC.

@jmrock, Open your deck, show us its incredible AoS and Joker >:(

That's why I said it should be the stamp dated between 1917-1919 instead of pre-1900.  ;D

I don't get it. NYCCC 1871-1930, why does a stamp cancelled by NYCCC mean 1917-1919?

http://www.cypressfilms.com/Bicycle/USPC_Dates/USPC_Dating_Codes.html
The tax was 7 cents in 1917-1919, I don't see "7" or "17" on jmrock's stamp.
The 2nd line of the overprint might denote the date accurately, but I can not read it clearly.

Hmm I'm looking at the fourth stamp from the website. It's the only one cancelled by NYCCC and it looks identical to the one on jmrock's deck. You're right about not being able to see the "17", but it could be just hardly visible, instead of not there.

Now I hope the condition of her deck is in good shape as she described, or it's me who will cry.
Just received the deck, don't need to cry 8)

Most of rare decks are not cheap today, collectors should be very careful. Yesterday I saw an Aristocrat 727 on eBay, I could not but SUSPECT something's wrong.

Please look closely to the pics: http://www.ebay.com/itm/270914875876

The stamp looks like a reused one (ever soaked in water).
In the last 2 pics, the box seems to be ever opened.

As mentioned earlier, I just SUSPECT and I won't touch suspicious items (and sellers) ::)

For anyone interested, I will be selling a Golden Nugget at tonight's sale in an hour and a half. The price is high but coupled with all the discounts you should be able to get it at a steal.

Loll I'm not trying to get you to open the deck too here, but I love the Joker! Even when it's still in the wax paper!

Another beautiful deck! I really like the simplicity of the box with the nice blue and the contrast in the gold. The gold seal on the wax paper is awesome as well. Although I guess you would expect a lot of gold being the treasury deck and all. The jokers does seem to look nice from what I can see through the wax paper. You continue to amaze!

  • Card for me maybe?
jmrock must have lots of vintage decks! Each and everyone of them looks really amazing!! As for me I can't seem to spot vintage decks on ebay, can't differentiate between old/used/never-heard-before and real vintage decks, also i'm not too familiar with them. Anyway, great deck you got there!
Stalking the forums, I'm in that corner!

This is an amazing thread. For casual collectors like myself, it introduces us to a whole new venue of cards, albeit an expensive one.

It's great just looking at these pieces of history wishing I had enough money for some of these. Looking forward to more pictures of vintage decks.

@jmrock, on your eBay autions, I think the 1900 Racer Back in wax paper is more appealing to people. The Trophy Whist is not so famous and popular for collectors. :P

I know everyone wants Bicycle... I still have a love for Bicycle as well... However, you can't deny the beauty of owning a piece of U.S. Playing Card history...

Secret Weapon Box (Vietnam Era), Uncle Sam Deck - Tax Stamp Replaced (U.S. Soldiers weren't required to pay taxes on the cards), & First ever release of 914 Aviator Brand Playing Cards c.1930s...

lol I took the photos myself, if that's what's confusing you.

I'll reply you soon, I'm off for break this week.

Man I'm yet to pick up a deck with the tax free stamps.
Secret Weapon Box...only box? No cards?
