  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

  • Facebook:

I went round and round about the gaffs, there is no perfect solution.  my thoughts on duplicate jokers is that people know that there are 2 jokers in the deck, people don't always realize that 1 is the guarantee joker, a double backer is a more natural solution for a deck like this. but then with 52 different colors what color do you make a double backer?

like I said round and round.  I finally took the deck and just started playing to see what might come out it of it, I came up with a really cool routine which would use a gaff that would be unique and kinda cool.

using a joker as a duplicate has never appealed to me.

I'm sure someone will come up with a better idea for the gaff and I`ll wish I had thought of it but for now I hope I am appealing to the magic community.

Thanks for the idea, since I still have the opportunity to make changes i'm always open!

OK, so if people know there's two jokers in a deck, why not make a duplicate card?  Pick whichever card(s) have the same red and/or blue back as standard Bicycle Rider Backs and make a second, identical version.  It would be nice for doing double lift tricks or taking a card off the top of the deck without revealing the spectrum colors of the other backs.

that's a good idea, that's actually why I changed two of the colors to the exact color values of the standard red and blue!

none of the reds or blues were exactly the same color so I asked uspcc for the exact values.  Also, this allows you to use it with a real red or blued deck, you just cut to the color you want on top.  Plus I made sure that the bottom most card leads into the top card so no matter where you cut the deck the spectrum continues... (did that make sense?)

Makes perfect sense to me.  Another possibility is to make two blue- and/or red-backed cards in that exact shade but give them different values - if you can think of an effective way to incorporate them into a magic trick.  I like the two identical cards for a particular trick I do that usually uses jokers, but for this deck, maybe two different cards with the same back color would be better.  You've been at this game far longer than I have; what do you think?

I can already envision putting the cards into "reverse faro" order and cutting down to the differently-valued card with the same back - it could be made to seem as if the two stacks were both blue-backed or red-backed cards.  Faro them together (easy enough, since most decks these days faro face-up anyway) and now the cards have been sorted into rainbow order with the spectator none the wiser.

So after much thought and discussion with my little "think tank" group of friends as well as my marketing consultant out of Florida, the gaffs for the SPECTRUM deck will change slightly:

the routine with the rainbow/blue, double-backed card (full spectrum of colors on one card) is very cool, but I got an email from someone who I've been bouncing things off of, (thanks Simon Beck!) and he informed me that he uses a red deck! So that routine isn't as appealing to him.  I went back and forth about the solid color and because of only having one card slot left, I decided blue since the color change is more drastic.

Red looks great too though!

So now I'll be including the double backer but one blue and one red.
this way it works for all and opens up way more possibilities than having a rainbow colored Ace.

Wish they'd give more card slots!

Thanks
Coz

$10 for a deck with only two custom cards? Pass. I'd spend $5, at the most.

Hey wanted to thank Russel K. personally here...
I see he changed his mind about the SPECTRUM deck... thanks for the order!

Thanks for the update. It is not the gaff card I want but it doesn't matter, because your specturm backs include normal red and blue, right? I have blank face cards with red or blue blacks, I will add them into your deck and still can perform the routine I want.  :P

Yeah!  I thought about it and I still think the price for a single deck is a bit high.  I pledged for the uncut sheet, it looks amazing and I will be proud to show it on my office wall!  Congrats on the funding, remember shipping and fees are going to be killer, don't blow all your extra money on a 'vacation*' just yet!

I pledged. Although I don't think this is the best deck ever released (I greatly prefer CCC, AC, and Robert Butler's decks), I still thing this one is pretty creative. Pledged for 25$. I was wondering if it was possible for me to add 2 decks to my order, making it 45$. Is that possible?

I don`t mind the deck but, I have a couple rainbow decks and they arn`t anything special. Also with shipping $15 is too much for me to spend on this deck with all the other decks that are coming out.
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

Well this is more for magicians and routines. It's also a collectors piece. I wouldn't put it in the same category as some other Kickstarter decks. Granted they are all beautiful decks but they offer different things.

I kinda hate myself for this since you've heard my opinions but hey my granddad offered to buy me anything (Within reason) so that I could show him and a few friends a great trick, and it's a bicycle deck and I am a bicycle collector - and I really love the coloured bike decks and have them all (all but yellow that stupid thing) so I caved and ordered one - look forward to the release and all :)

EDIT - I forgot to write the have them all bit :L

Hey Nathan,

I didn't realize you posted that question here, I pm'd you on kickstarter... thanks again!

@Fallen_Angel...
damn i want an uncut but i dont want 4 decks with the uncut sheet :( i just want two decks

it's easy to get what you want on kickstarter, I've made custom pledges for several people, just send me a kickstarter message if you want.  Happy to make it work for ya!

You can also just get the card and sheet, then add the difference.  there's a verification at the end where you make it clear what the money was for.

Regarding the gaff, unfortunately there's only two slots for gaffs so it's impossible to do all the things I'd like, or all the things people would want...

@hazofhorsham  lol! thanks for picking one up!  I didn't take any of your opinions as negative!  Whenever someone says $XX of dollars is too much I just hear, it's too much for me... everyone has their comfort zone!  And if your grandad would buy you anything within reason, well, I gotta say wow, i'm honored you chose the SPECTRUM deck!

And yes this deck really was designed by and for magicians, but along the way, and the reason for the jokers and ace really came from a friend who's a big card collector who educated me on that market.  Also the limited run gold seal was highly suggested by a couple of VERY prominent names (I'm sure you know who they are, but I won't mention them without their consent) in the card collecting community.

So truthfully, just IN CASE someone who collected cards got one of the decks, I wanted to offer something to them as well.

Lots and lots of thought, weeks, months of back and forth, even meetings in person and skype!  Sounds silly doesn't it?

Anyway, thanks everyone!

Coz

Mmm I don't really like the back of the box. Uncommon to print the Joker there.
Any picture for the back side of the uncut?

Yeah I've seen the poster, but more interested in the uncut. I don't think it'll look the same.

Other than the AOS's and the Jokers, the face of the cards look pretty standard to me. I already have the Rainbow deck and the Tetra deck, so I'll pass on these.

The point is though it's a magic deck! Most magic decks cost must more. Look at Ellusionist gaff decks. They cost no more to produce, yet cost six times as much! $30 for one of Ellusionist's magic decks. Now I know E has a lot more artists, and there are more tricks, but I just feel that people should stop complaining about the price and realize that this deck isn't made for everyone. It wasn't meant to be liked by everyone. It was for a specific audience of magicians and flourishers and this is cheaper than many of the other color-changing decks I've seen.

Also, could you please change the title of this thread? Thanks  :)

I'm not sure how you can compare this to a gaff deck, there's nothing gaff about it other than the backs. The majority of gaff decks are face gaffed. I'm sure this will be a deck that appeals to some, but for a colour changing deck, I know a few that are better suited. That's just my opinion, so for those that do order them..enjoy :) they are kind of unigue, I guess :-X

How exactly is this a magic deck? Sure if you're using it to do colour changes, but how is it different from any other regular decks out there (by regular I mean non-gaff decks). I'm no magician so I don't know much about tricks, but I don't think this deck could do you too much good comparing to other decks.

This wouldn`t be super practical for anything. I think E`s gaff decks are 100x better although I can see how people could like this deck.
