No, no one would pay more than $30 for it.

Rider back, opened. Not worth much more than $30.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

I got a laugh at the huge spiel he wrote in the description - and using eBay mobile, no less!

So, would you say that Rider Backs net less simply because of them being a bit more common than some other designs?  That of two decks of the same year/quality, a Rider Back would be worth less than something like a New Fan Back, for example?

It's dangerous for me to ask these questions - it's a sign that I'm becoming more interested in vintage cards...  :))

That's probably the case. Also since they're still obtainable today. I believe the New Fan was discontinued for some years, and reprinted again in vintage series, and canasta.

But if you were talking truly vintage Rider Backs, say for example, an 1887 deck with all the cards intact, perhaps even the box - that would be worth considerably more, opened or not, right?  That's the first year the Rider Backs were issued.  What if it was a similar condition deck that was pre-1900?

Time does bring up the value of these vintage decks. But like you said, the condition matters. A torn box with missing decks probably wouldn't worth more than $150 even if it was pre-1900 (just my estimate). But if it's complete, with or without the joker, with or without the box, the value would change. If it was one of the first jokers, it could bring the price up by say $60, and a nice box for another $40. Again these are just my estimates. It's hard to pin down the market value of these vintage decks.

Dude! rotflmao...

I have to stay away from vintage.  It's fun to look at them, but if I started buying them my fiancee would kick me out of the apartment!  She only tolerates my current-deck collection because it fits in a single narrow shelving unit we got as a gift from one of her friends!

Wow. These are on sale for 99¢ each currently. Why are they on sale for so much here?

Currently? The closeout ended several day ago. $15-20/pair is their normal price on the market.
The rules of the game are simple, when the music stops suddenly, players have to race to sit down in one of the chairs. Obviously jmrock's friend had a seat.

Oh. I thought Don said they wouldn't go for more than 1$ until at least a year ...

Actually I bought 2 sets last year. They were $20/pair and free shipping in US (I ordered mine and had them sent to my friend's place). They then changed the pricing strategy, the decks were around $15/pair and shipping in US was around $5. It looked like a business trick, the total amount of meney a buyer should pay was still the same. Besides, I remember they were limited to 5 sets a person. I could not but think it's too good to be true when first reading ItsMagicI..'s post.

I put the Big Guns on eBay for $5 for the pair... People bid them up... The market dictates how much things are worth... Or for an instance how much an individual is willing to pay at that time... People are still selling the set for $40, so I'd say $15 is a more than fair price being I paid $20 for the set when it came out... Also, anyone still looking for the set please let me know (sorry to cross thread)...

No, no one would pay more than $30 for it.

The auction ended without a bidder. ;)

That's not entirely accurate.  The eBay page says:

"This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available."

It looks like he may have sold it privately outside of eBay.

I kept watching this auction, it was ended few hours earlier than the end time ???
If he sold it outside the eBay, it is still impossbile to sell it more than $30. Maybe $5 :o :o (kidding, but he might relist it with a very low starting price later I think)
