As some of you may know I was one of the Ellusionist 2011 Holiday Contest winners. I had one a brick of the LTD deck which has given me the great opportunity to expand my novice deck collection. Me and a friend had a pact during the contest that if either of us should win we would split the prize in half to help both of us expand our horizons in our new passion for cards.

Here is the dilemma:

He has moved away from my location (different dilemma) and I have offered to have the cards sent to him but he has made no effort to accept or deny this gift. How long should I keep attempting to have these sent to him before I make use of the remaining decks? (some for collection some for trade)

Any imput would help me greatly,

Zach

I would send him a message telling him if he doesnt answer you in 1 month the decks are all yours.
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

Do you really need more than 6 LTD decks anyways? What I would do is keep his 6 just in case he answers (it wouldn't be honest to not give them to him if he just takes a while to answer). Use your 6 however you would like, but act as if those other 6 weren't yours. Give him 6 months. Contact him however you can, and regularly, and as long as you are honest and he exceeds the time limit, you can have all 12. Anyways, in 6 months, those LTDs will be worth even more!

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

  • Facebook:
If the friend isn't keeping in touch, can you really still call him friend?  Friends do sometimes drift a bit, but if a buddy asked me for a response to a question, especially if he was trying to give me something desirable, I'd respond.

Offer a deadline, one that feels appropriate to the situation, and tell him he needs to claim his cards by then.

If you're feeling particularly generous and don't want things ending badly in any way, put his cards on eBay at the ultimatum date and sell them, then PayPal him the cash.  It's hard for him to legitimately moan about the loss that way.  Otherwise, just keep the cards and do what you wish with them.  You were the contest winner, you're within your rights to do so.

My 1st question would be why is he not responding to you. Is this a question of your trying to contact him through email (or any other valid means of communication...phone...etc) and he isn't responding to you at all or you have been in communication with him and he refuses to answer the question (I don't know why anyone would)?  I would say if you can't get in touch with him period to let that be your 1st concern....why can't you get in touch with him? Has his phone/internet been disconnected....has his computer crashed...has he been locked up for bank robbery (just kidding!)?  Until you find out why you can't contact him....I say wait a few months and find out why before doing anything with the decks. If on the other hand he just won't answer your question....I say give him a month after you have notified him and they are yours.  This isn't exactly the same thing but for an example....a lot of people who find money or other valuables post in the wanted adds in their local newspapers...if after a month no one claims the items they keep them.  I hope you get the jest of what I'm saying...in other words don't post the decks in his local paper but for most people a valid attempt at contacting someone and giving them a reasonable amount of time to claim their property and then keeping said property if receiving no answer is ethical!

Exactly what I was thinking. What if he is having a serious issue preventing him from getting in touch. For all we know at this point he could have been kidnapped by mexican drug cartels. Also, if he is a "good" friend, why even put a time limit on it. The cards will not go bad. If the shoes were reversed what would you like him to do. I would have to say, in a case such as yours and friends being as precious as they are, put them aside and forget about them. The time will come when you will know exactly what to do with them.            P.S. Congrats on the LTD score. I have two of those decks and they are amongst my favorites.

Is my clock off?   ;)

You gave him plenty of time.  Don't sweat it if you truly believed you tried to contact him multiple ways (not just email).  Enjoy the bonus!
