Today, the space shuttle, Discovery, flew over Washington D.C. from NASA in Florida. I went out to see it and these are some of the pics I got. It was a really awesome, once in a lifetime moment.

Nice pics, although many consider it a waste of money, I hope the US (NASA) continue with there plans on making a new ship. It will be interesting to see how Sir. Richard and the few other private space craft will do in the near future.

I'm not a Reddit user so I don't really know how it works...

I was waiting for it. My parents were nice enough to let me skip school today and my Dad works in D.C. so I went there with him.

Why is it so close to the other plane?
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

I believe the other plane is carrying it.

Ooohh, why did they take it for a fly then? Just for people to see it?

Nathan is right. The plane is carrying the space shuttle. They were moving it from NASA, to Dulles Airport, and then to the Air and Space Museum which is why they flew there. What other way would they transport it?  ::)

This is what the Space Shuttle Discovery looked like the last time I saw it before today!

http://www.aviationspectator.com/files/images/Space-Shuttle-Discovery-STS-103-084.preview.jpg

I got to watch it take off on the Kennedy Space Center grounds from about three miles away.  At the time, it was the most delayed shuttle launch ever!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STS-103

The wildest part was that it was a moderately cool day, mid-December, and when those engines ignited, the air temperature rose by about ten degrees!  At a range of THREE MILES!  There's a lot of joules behind a reaction like that, I tell you what...  :))

Awesome photos, Evan - thanks for the memories!

Greetings from Florida :D
Thats pretty awesome you got to see it! I admit that even though Im a Floridian I never saw a rocket launch in person. But I always caught the sonic boom at 7am when they would land. Getting ready for school/work and all of the sudden the windows rattle. First time it happened it scared the crap out of me. Good times :P
