Bringing this topic back with a question. I've heard that for cards you are going to use, it's very important to store them flat, instead of up on end. True? I live in Florida, pretty humid and can definitely tell the difference on the muggy days with how the cards handle but wasn't sure if I could keep them up on end like books. (cuz I'm a visual guy and they just look better that way :)

I'll most likely be getting something built... But I use shoe boxes.

And...

And a metal brief case

I really need a display cabinet

I've been collecting for almost 3 years.

That display box was a gift from my wife for Christmas.
I only owned 3-4 decks, and my wife had my friend build that display, and she purchased those 24 decks for it.

She's amazing.

and now my collection has grown to this...

Wow! firstly, all of those collections/cases people have showcased are awesome!

I was thinking about building a custom case (similar to a cabinet) to store my cards in. The benefit of this is that I could pick the dimensions for the shelving and the overall size of the cabinet. I think this would make for the best storage for my cards, while also keeping them in a nice order. This is still a rough idea in my head. Since I don't often do projects such as this I still need to work out the plans and whatnot. Has anybody else ever tackled a project like this? If so any tips or trick I should keep in mind?

Thanks!

Thats not exactly what I was talking about, but those are snazzy looking!

I'm thinking more of a storage unit, similar to a cabinet within a house. Just an idea I'm toying with and I thought throwing it out there might a good idea.

Those pictures that CBJ just posted were the inspiration for me building my own frames. I am jealous of the construction of those frames, they look very solid compared to what I own. Not to say mine will fall apart a a moments notice, but I feel I am definitely lacking in some of the craftsmanship area. Hopefully on my next frame, which I am starting to need quite desperately, I will have more time to devote to creating what I feel is a solid and well crafted frame.

I think Alex had plans for a bookshelf type unit where you would reverse the shelves themselves so that it would create a lip at the bottom and then tilt them forward at an angle to display

Yeah those displays from Vasta is really what I want for my poker area downstairs.
I need to find a way to get these built for me!  I would still do 12 decks across, but I would most likely go 1 row higher... to match the height of the framed uncuts

I purchased them off of Ebay quite a while back.

There was a guy on UC who had 4 sets, but I'm not sure what he did with them.
http://www.unitedcardists.net/uc/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3531

They are very hard to find.  Just like this deck...

I wish.  I still can't find a sealed one.  These were handed out to employees and dignitaries at the commemorative opening on the new plant.

This opened one went on Ebay recently

No I don't have this deck opened or sealed.

I've been searching for quite a while.  I would only purchase a sealed one.

Anyone have one?? lol

i've gotten a set of the DB prototypes from that guy a while ago, and i'm also the one who won the bid for the grand opening deck.

i think that guy mentioned that it was the last set that he'll let go, at least for a long while.
as for the grand opening, it doesn't have a seal, so only the cellophane was taken away. didn't mind it being opened because the deck is so hard to come buy, have it being not for sale to the public. also, i've been collecting vintage decks so opened decks isn't too much of a concern to me when it comes to rare decks.

Since I'm new to this, my collection is still in its infancy (4 decks). I've been storing them in a rather...unconventional box that I happened to have lying around (picture taken from Internet):

http://0.tqn.com/d/playstation/1/0/A/C/IMG_4879.JPG

Of course, it has rather limited space thus isn't viable for the long term. I'll figure something out eventually.
