Hi Everyone! I wanted to share news of my latest project with you: The Simian Playing Cards set

This plastic coated poker deck showcases 54 individual monkey portraits with a variety of odd and unusual professions. It includes a monkey flavored custom card back and tuck box. Includes such characters as Baron Andrew Oolong the Ghost Hunter, François Hyperbarique the Sub-Aether Explorer, Major Manny Minuscule the Micro Militiaman and Captain Uther Wigglesgig the Zombie Whisperer.

More info and pictures here:

Thanks!
Chet

Welcome to the Discourse Chet, hope you enjoy your stay. There was another monkey themed deck on kickstarter that did not get funded ( Ultra Ape ) but maybe your deck will get more interest. Good luck with your project and if you keep reading these boards I'm sure you'll find alot of helpfull insight and advise.

That's an awesome deck, and would make a wonderful gift to anyone that does anything with cards.

The art is hilarious.

Thanks everyone for the great comments. Regarding the specs for production, I used Liberty Playing cards located in Arlington, TX.

I can't say for sure, but I believe they are the company responsible for producing the infamous "Most Wanted" Iraqi playing card set.

They generally just work with companies, not individuals. However I was fortunate enough to have a recommendation through a Dallas area printer that connected me with a sales rep. I think the monkey theme caught their fancy.

I find the art very nice looking as well. However I am disappointed by the fact that these aren't USPCC... How do they handle?

Hi Chimington. Thank you for  sharing that.
Anyway I just wanted to say how much I laughed when I saw the 10 of Clubs, because it looked my one of my favourite characters from before. Nigel Thornberry :D
Its a very interesting set.

Thanks for the nice words about the artwork, Nathan and Lara! I couldn't speak to the specific particulars regarding this set to your expectations with USPCC. In my humble opinion they handle wonderfully and exhibit the quality and professionalism of high quality card printing. Lara, he is indeed rather "Nigel-ish."

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

  • Facebook:
I've heard of Liberty Playing Cards, they're not bad.  And they were one of the companies printing the "Iraq's Most Wanted" decks, USPC being one as well.

Chimington, you'll have to forgive some people here.  We have a few "USPC snobs" and even a few whose preference is narrowly focused on just the Bicycle brand.  As far as they're concerned, if it didn't come from USPC, they don't care for it.  Their loss!
