Mehh, I already have a good number of each color and already own 2 of the Limited Edition Varity Boxes.  I will save my money for the next White Lions that he will release soon.  I do love the Split Spades though!

Alright guys so i'm more than confused about split spades. I've never paid much attention to all the different versions. would someone be kind enough to enlighten me?? Which ones come in this box.? Also any idea of the value of each?? What do you guys think? Is the box worth it? are there rarer versions?? Are these the tally ho or bee ones??

Ok so thats about all the questions I can muster up at the moment. If any one has any other info I'd really appreciate it!

The red and blue ones. The sepia box contains the blue ones too.
The blue split spades lions are also in mnemonica order (a stack by Juan Tamariz).
For what i can say is that even with the 47USD shipping to germany (yeah thats expensive!) i paid about 10 Euro (13USD) a deck.
Usually they go for 18USD average per deck.

Currently waiting for those decks being released :
- Seasons [Primavera / Seronda]  / Aether [Vortex] / Bicycle [Actuators] / Mana [Oracle] / The Blue Crown - [Altruism] / Encarded [Tendril]

I picked one up. I believe these are the split spade lions. I've seen them sell $18 - $26 USD a deck on eBay. Do the Math. I paid $100.00 + $8.88 State Tax + $7.29 shipping to NY. That's a Total $116.17, divided by 12 decks. That's about $9.70 per deck rounded off. Its signed by David on the box (not the decks). The decks maintain the original factory sealed value, while the signature increases the total value of the set. Its a limited edition of only 100 and they are some of the best handling decks made. Well worth it!!

Like John B said, definitely for resale. You could sell the entire collector brick after it's sold out for more than $100. Even if you sell the decks separately on average market value of split spades, it'll still be more than what you pay for. To be honest, I expect this to cost more than $100.

Personally, split spades are actually one of the decks I enjoy using so I wouldn't mind having a brick extra for future uses. You never know what might happen. :)

The variety box was nice but the only decks I really wanted out of it were the rare "white lions".  Every deck you get in the spit spade box is a deck that a potential buyer of it would want. The split spade is limited to only 100, unlike the 250 of the variety box. Your getting the same value and quality with every one of the 12 decks in the box. These are the actual decks David uses when he performs. I am a playing card collector but I do consider David to be our modern day Harry Houdini. Quite the collectible if you ask me. I would regret missing out on these more so then the variety box!!

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

  • Facebook:
That's a good buy - but why no black?  4 reds and a total of 8 blue, half in regular box, half in sepia boxes.  That's a lotta blue.

When I sell out my Americanas, I'll be getting out of the "buy for resale" game.  More trouble than it's worth so far.

I would be eager for this if:
1) I didn't already own a good deal of them
2) I've got my eyes on some new decks, and
3) I've got a vacation, wedding and reception to pay for.

Anyone want a brick of Americanas below retail?  Check my sales thread...

What's the going rate for just one pack of Split Spades Lions?  I'm betting if you multiply that by twelve, it won't come close to what some of those people want - and would the certificate and the box be worth THAT much extra?  At $100 it was a deal; at those prices, it's a rip-off.

Haha all three of those auctions lowered their price by alot. I guess it was worth a try... it would have been pretty bad if people bought them at those prices. My personal hope is to sell six at a reasonable price and basically get 6 decks for close to nothing, not flip it for 2 and a half times the price the day after they sell out

They were trying to price them based on what the "less limited" DB Variety Box was trading for.  But they forgot two key differences.

  • Most of the DB Variety Boxes sold for $149 at original retail, and
  • The VBs had a real cornucopia of DB decks - while this one had only Split Spade Lions, and only in red, blue and blue in a sepia box.  Is it just me or are the black ones more scarce?
So they finally had their realities checked and brought the prices out of the stratosphere and merely into "high-rise" range...
