Damn beat me to it! It's a pretty nice looking deck and i've pledged. Better than some of the other crap that has been coming off of there recently.

This deck looks alright. I like the how the faces of the cards look a lot but I don't really like the back design and its a one way back. But like vmagic said, it's better than some the other decks that we've been seeing on kickstarter.

I like the back design as it is but i'll like it more if the word "genesis" is some sort of ambigram.. that would be really nice.

for the faces i like the AoS but can't really say I like the other faces especially the KoH. it would definitely appeal to me more if it was more custom. Having said that, I'm sure there's people out there who would like them so good luck to this on KS. Not going to pledge it now but I'll be following its progress.

The back is fail. I was really digging what I was seeing until it got to the back design. That alone is stopping me from pledging this deck...I am sure I am not alone here.

I made a comment on things he could improve and he said he is looking at changing the back design so there is some hope. I also mentioned custom court cards but I doubt that is happening,  but if the back design is improved it will be much better.

I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope on improvement.  This guy thought that a big old word in the middle of the back of his deck was a "subtle" one-way design.  As subtle as a sledgehammer to the nuts, if you ask me.

It's got that nice 3-D look to it, but nothing else really stands out on this deck for me.  Considering I'm scaling back, this deck's a pass for me.

I like the way the faces look a lot. But again, the back designer kills it. I really hope they'll make some changes.

He is changing the back design to a two way back design and he even sent me 3 possible new backs and I am trying to get him to post them here so you can help decide because I don't want to do it by myself.

Essentially the back design is the same except for the word. One version has no words on it whatsoever. A second has the word Genesis twice in the center, one facing each direction, and the third has the word Genesis on both sides just above the 2 figures. I'll try to get him to post the pics or see if I can post them and you can decide. Personally I find that the back looks kind of plain and boring without any words but you can be the judge of that if and when him or I post the designs.

I take it that this is your design?

I'm not a huge fan of the ones with "Genesis" in them, but then again, I'm not a big fan of the deck.  No offense, but it's got a lot of elements I've seen before and not enough to make it stand out to me.  I'm just one guy, though, so don't pay it much mind.

I did finally spot the "subtle" part of the one way back.  To a trained eye, it's not that subtle, but the average spectator doesn't have a trained eye.  The "two tree people" image is merely flipped horizontally from one half of the deck to the other - in effect, they're mirror images, like looking at yourself in a tranquil, glass-smooth lake.  If they were also flipped on the vertical axis, then they'd be a true two-way back.

I have to ask, how did you come up with the name?  It's kind of strange.  I don't see anything about the deck that looks "aboriginal" to me.

Thank you for the comments negative or positive only makes one better. "Aboriginal" is more on the story behind the book of Genesis "The Beginning" not so much the style or it being different then other decks as you kindly expressed you seen the elements before. :)

So its really more focused on the beginning of time or creation you might say, "Adam and Eve".

I do thank you for taking the time to leave any comment its really appreciated. You could of easily just ignored it completely!!

Thanks You

Actually, THAT one-way design was quite subtle when compared to what the earlier design was like.  If you wished to make this a one-way back, that would be one way of accomplishing it.  I would point out, though, that for a magician's or card-sharp's use, the best one-way design utilize a subtle change in a single corner of a card, so it could be spotted in a spread or a fan.

By and large, though, people prefer using unadulterated decks for general purpose use.

I'd consider calling the deck something simpler.  If your deck's face imagery ties in to the Genesis story as well as the back, than just go with "Genesis deck".  If it doesn't, think of a new possible name.  "Genesis Aboriginals" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, even with lubricant, and I have yet to see anything there that ties to the modern idea of aboriginals.  Most people think "aboriginals," they think of native Australians - and I could be wrong but I don't think the term's appreciated by the people so named these days.

People around here don't necessarily have to love your ideas to be willing to offer good advice and commentary.  I'd rather see an improved, successful Kickstarter deck (even if I still didn't like it enough to buy it) than one that goes unchanged and languishes before meeting an unsuccessful end.  We're particular not only about the decks we buy, but about the trends that decks take in the industry as a whole, and just because I don't want it doesn't mean there aren't hundreds of other people who would, perhaps more after you make some kind of improvements, whether they're the ones I suggest or not.

I'm starting to like the one with no words on it, but perhaps it could have something in the center of it? I also agree with shortening the title to just Genesis, sounds much better. Here in Canada we think of aboriginals as the local natives also and probably the same in the States.

First of all, welcome to the discourse! As for the back design, I prefer the second one. I find it more "balanced", with more in the center than the edges. Second choice would be the one without the writing for me.

I highly recommend you edit your account's signature to include links to your Kickstarter project, if not a full banner ad.  Often the difference between a deck's success and failure is how heavily it was promoted.

Thanks again Don

This is something more along the lines of what I was talking about:

NEW USPC DECK - GENESIS "ABORIGINAL"!  Join my Kickstarter project NOW! [put link here]

A simple, shortened link without so much as a title isn't much of an advertisement...  :))

Also, I looked at the new back, and it's very nice - but I spotted one little "artifact" that's been on all of the back designs so far and also renders the deck as a one-way.  In the left margin, a tiny bit above halfway, you'll notice a little spot that isn't replicated on the right margin anywhere.  You might consider leaving it in or taking it out - a subtle one-way is a nice little feature for a magicians, but some think of it as a crutch.  Worse is when you're depending on it and it's too easily spotted - blows the entire trick.

I'm not sure if you're aiming for a one-way or two-way back design here, but the way the background shading is, if you flip one card and spread the deck, even a spectator will notice that it's out of place.

I like the design, but I'm a performer first, collector second, and obvious one-way backs are a no-go for me.  Sorry.  Make the shading symmetrical, and I'll be sold.  Just my opinion.

Yeah, I realized that as well after a closer look.  It's a common problem with a "used/parchment" look deck.  Series 1800, Karnival Dead Eyes, the DiFatta Faded Decks, the list goes on.  But the fix is easy - do what he did with the trees and apply the same thing to the background.  Copy one half, flip it around and apply it to the bottom half, done.
