I did a test by mirroring the design element.  I reduced it from a 10% black to 5% because I think it would distract too much from the illustration and it should be very difficult to notice from the edge.  Fading it to the edges didn't work, it just looked wrong.  Personally I like the one way design but I understand the issue for Magicians.   I'm not sure what I think about the mirrored element though. By the way Encarded, I love your Tendril deck and it was one of my inspirations on desiring to make my own deck.

I have to say that the mirroring on the design on the back of the court cards are a bit odd. A more 'free' design would be better in my opnion. Certainly being the front of the cards, no one cares if it is different one way to another. Not even these demanding magicians.

For the back design. Have you already decided which one you liked more? Or did other experiments with colours? From what I see now, this deck is very promising. I'll be looking forward to further updates...

I think that mirroring works pretty well, actually. However, now that I'm really thinking about it, the overall art style and theme of the illustrations doesn't exactly match the neo-victorian-curly motif. We've seen that motif used a lot lately and it is very attractive, but I think there needs to be a valid reason for it's use, not just because it looks interesting. The illustrations are very fantastical and aggressive and I don't feel like that mixes very well with the delicate curls.

Just some designery thoughts.

Yeah, I've been thinking the motif might not be necessary the more I play with it.  I was mostly worried about the background not having enough body to it but with the custom icons and illustration there might be enough going on that a lot of negative space would be OK.  The strong upper left to lower right diagonal and negative space in the upper right and lower left might actually look kinda cool with some tricks and flourishing.  Here's the queen without the background.

I don't mind it if you put the delicate lines or not but what does the ace of Spades look like now? I'm thinking it looks pretty  because of all the white spaces.

I'm loving the faces with or without the background design. I'm not particularly picky with that. The back design can do away with the boarder.  It would be much better. Like what Paul mentioned earlier. I like the feel of this deck. it has a lot of potential! Great work! And keep it up as well.

@CipherKai - no background and no boarder looks really fantastic! I LOVE IT!
good update! I have a feeling the printing plates of these would look so amazing... its too bad that USPCC does not allow the release of the plates anymore.

I personally prefer the newer back and most recent court card without the back design. I do agree that the deck looks extremely promising. I can't wait to see more!
