Just heard from Ben Crenshaw at Bent Castle Workshops.  They're working on a re-do of the Pippoglyph.

Pippoglyph II will have tweaks to the indices and color background, will incorporate the "X" cards used in the Pegleg Pete's and Deck of the Living Dead decks, and will come with a bordered back - available for the first time in two colors, not just red!  Target release date is spring 2013.

I'm crossing my fingers that they also do a textured stock this time.  I like smooth stocks, but there's something about the performance of a textured, "air cushion-y" stock that makes it so appealing.

Any of you folks out there get the Bent Castle decks?  You should check them out - they're worth it.

I took advantage of the bundle thing from their Kickstarter and got pretty much everything they made, the Pipploglyph, peg legs, living dead. They are fun decks to look at but not something I actively play with. As you said, there is something about the air-cushion type of card that makes it easier to use when messing about.

I did the same - got the "Collector" reward x2.

I don't know about you, but I was really loving the Pegleg Pete's decks.  Did you notice they're traditionally cut - that they faro face-down?  The texture of the stock and finish reminded me a little of the MSM decks, and it was pretty thick and sturdy stuff.  And I LOVE that box!  Why don't ALL decks come in such a great box?  Flip-top, crush-resistant - tuck boxes look weak in comparison.

I had actually pledged for the same collector's set thingy you are talking about, but a couple hours before the end of the project, I asked myself: "Do I really want this deck?" I thought it would look great, but handle terribly. So I removed my pledge. And I still regret it to this day :P

Long-expected, they're now here.  From Bent Castle, another in their series.
I'm guessing that the courts and spots and Aces are all identical to the red-backed Pippoglyph deck, but Pippoglyph II adds two new colors for the backs ... green and brown.
The other big difference is that they're switching to USPCC, which means they're only doing a 56-card deck, not the usual BentCastle 60-card deck. (More about that below the fold.)

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2031961868/pippoglyph-ii-playing-cards?ref=search

$10 a deck, no early birds.
$5 to ship international.
$13,500 funding goal
USPCC

Tuck is the usual split image of the back and a face.  Which means that in the pictures below, you can at least get a partial view of the green back and the brown back (plus it says so right on the tuck) ... but I don't see where it talks about that in the text or the reward descriptions.  But I think that's the whole point.  Anyway, if you want 'em both ...

$20 for two decks, $8 to ship international.

But the biggest deal is the switch from their current 60-card supplier to USPCC 56 cards.  Here's what that means: "It will be a 56 card deck [...] The four extra cards are Jokers, updated from the original Pippoglyph deck, and two entirely new cards: a Black Knight and a Dragon. By including the four suited jokers, we are accommodating our following who have incorporated our customary X cards into games and magic. We regret that USPCC will not print a 60 card deck."

Another interesting thing about this KS is that the pledge levels trade extensively on their current stock of decks.

$35 for 2 of the new decks, plus any two of their other decks (Extraordinary Voyages, Living Dead, or Pegleg Pete's). $12 for international on that gang of four.

$65 for the full monty ... 2 each of all four BentCastle pairs: Pippoglyph II, Extraordinary Voyages, Living Dead, and Pegleg Pete's.  (My bad, they call that the Full House, not the Full Monty :-).  $18 extra for international.

I'll confess, I love their work.  I'm a fan.

Yeah, I'm sure backing this one  :)

I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be Bent Castle's most funded deck. I'm really happy they are going USPCC this time.

I'll miss that lovely and practical box he used for the first Pippoglyph, though.

Did you know that this deck was already on the NDR as a Company Project - and that there was a LINK there to the PRE-EXISTING TOPIC on this deck?!?

I'm going a little crazy here with people making topics willy-nilly and not looking to see if the topic already exists, especially when it comes to decks.  If you knew how difficult it is to combine a recent topic with one that's be stagnant for a few months, you'd know why it was driving me crazy!

Look BEFORE you create new topics!

The deck looks great, I'm glad they went with USPC - their previous printers are OK, but the Pippoglyph needed this.  I notice they jazzed up the back, which is very nice.  I can't wait to get these cards into my hands, seriously - I have every Bent Castle deck they released.

Much apologies.  I'm VERY sensitive to not wanting to be That Guy who creates topics willy nilly, and I know how difficult it is to join topics, which is why I try  not to be That Guy.  I searched around ... went to several different pages nothing there, and I went to NDR and made sure it wasn't in any kickstarter projects nothing there either ... should have searched for the word in NDR and that would have shown there was a link ...

You are wrong. Unfortunately... The new design is worse than 1st one.

I hope they'll change that.

I hope they'll change that.

The only major differences are these:
  • The court cards have a slightly darker background and have been tweaked just the smallest amount.
  • On the spot cards, only the aces have that "strip" behind them - the others get some dots added to the pattern in the in-between spaces.
  • The back is completely different, with a white border and a Celtic-knot inspired design.
I own the originals.  Frankly, while the concept of having all the suits in the back design was cool, the light-red-on-dark-red pattern just made it look muddy and indistinct.  I liked the design, didn't like the color scheme, and didn't like the dark-bordered backs with white-bordered faces.  I prefer borders to match.  I'm not a humongous fan of the new design, but the fact that it doesn't look like a muddled sea of red is a plus.

Tastes differ.
