Best Way to Perform a Giant Fan?

Question: What is the best way to perform a giant fan?

To do a giant fan, I know some cardists just Faro straight down the middle while other cardists offset the cards to one side or another. I just wanted to know which style fits better for you, or which style you use most often. Also, which style do you think looks better? Personally, they all look amazing and I can't decide. What do you guys think?

For the following opinion assume all giant fans are done back side up.

In my opinion I like having the top row right wards... I think it looks the cleanest. The only drawback to this is when you flip over the deck, the bottom pips don't show.

I do think it is easier to giant fan with the cards left wards if the cards are very slippery and it shows the pips the best when flipped over. I think it looks the messiest.

The center fanning looks clean too and shows the pips when flipped but the cards just don't feel comfortable to hold.

I have trouble doing giant fans and I don't know y? What kind of deck is best used to do it? By that I mean, does th deck have to b fully worked and broken in to, or is it something u can do straight out th box?

If it's falling apart after you've spread the deck, try attempting a giant fan with the cards Faro'd deeper into the deck. If you're Faro'ing with the decks interlaced at the tips, they might not stick as much, if at all. Also, try to go slower. It's not going to make the fan prettier if you do it too fast. If all else fails, try fanning with the deck horizontal, as opposed to regularly fanning vertically.

You're supposed apply pressure onto the bottom of the deck to keep it from falling apart. You should be pressing down really hard with two of your fingers. For me, the pressure points are the top pad of my thumb and the top knuckle of my middle finger.

You also want to look at how you go from faro to fan. For me, it's much easier to actually reposition the deck. After you faro the cards, try moving them around without spreading them, holding only the bottom end of one side. Get a feel for things, and how much pressure is require to keep the cards intact.

Remember that giant fans don't work the same as a thumb fan. You don't even need to touch the sides of the deck with your fanning hand. The only card I touch when I fan is the top card, all the way on the edge, and I get perfect buttery fans every time.

Also, practice. Seriously, it doesn't matter if you fail 99/100x. Eventually it'll be 98/100, then 9/10, 5/10, and one day 0/10.

Decided to actually give the giant fan a bit of work and see if I could get the hang of it. It feels like it's starting to get there, the smooth finish on the Legends deck is really making it easier.
