Just got an email from the Magic Place and I noticed this little mention at the bottom of the email of a new Criss Angel deck. From what I can tell it looks like the same deck just with a new seal.

Stay tuned for the release of the Baroque Black Label Special Edition decks.

I don't like Criss Angel, I don't care for his Baroque deck, so yea... I won't be buying these.

I'm sort of indifferent to Angel, especially the Angel/Blaine "wars", but since I've been trimming back the spending, this would be a good place to continue the trend.

I didn't think his earlier Baroque deck was all that bad-looking.  It was light-years ahead of his first deck, the godsawful ones that were sold with the magic kits.  Those fell out of the fugly tree and hit every branch coming down...

ADDENDUM: I poked around a bit and discovered that this deck, like the original "Gray Edition", will be sold exclusively at Magic Place.

Anyone have any guesses about the differences between this edition and the first one?

I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a Dan & Dave and just put a label on it and sell it for more money.

On a side note, I got an email from magicgeek.com that says they will be selling Criss Angel stuff now so perhaps they will also have that deck.

This deck is on sale now:  http://www.magicplace.com/product/blacklabel

The major differences are:
1) an all-black box (never heard of that before)...
2) a custom deck seal stating the deck name: Baroque Black Label
3) the cards themselves, identical to the originals except that the backs, instead of a pale gray, are simply black.

At least it's not expensive.

The only problem is they want $21 for shipping with Fedex!

I'm not sure where you are, but I plugged in the numbers for a four-deck purchase just to see what would come up.  I live in the NYC Metro area.  Here's what I got, from most to least expensive.

FedEx Standard Overnight: $36.33
FedEx 2nd Day: $17.57
FedEx Express Saver: $14.77
USPS Priority Mail: $13.73

While this isn't the cheapest shipping out there, there are less expensive options offered.  What choices were you given?  Did you try MagicGeek as well?

EDIT: just tried MagicGeek - no Criss Angel decks.  Their deck selection is TINY, only 21 custom decks (including basics like Tally Ho).

Yeah I checked Magicgeek myself. The only options I was given for was Fedex international rates for shipping to Canada. I asked them to ship it USPS but they say this is the only option and the $21 rate is the cheapest one. I usually pay $5-15 for shipping decks to Canada anywhere else and everyone else uses USPS.

I'm sure that they use FedEx simply for the international tracking and that they worked out a deal on the price.  The only way to ship with tracking out of the US via USPS is Express Mail.
