1st Generation Arrco STUDS playing cards - Discontinued

Hey Everyone,

I hear that an end of an era is coming and that STUDS are being discontinued... I am currently looking for Vintage Arrco STUD Playing Cards that were manufactured by arrco in Chicago. The STUDS have an arrco seal on them and are have a COMPLETELY different back design altogether,,

There is alot of talk about Old STUDS and VTG STUDS, that are made by USPC with the white on the top and bottom of the tucks, there are lighter color old studs which are really kind of new... And then finally the darker color studs that are sold today which are now being stopped..

But the RAREST STUD has a completely different back design and was manufactured by arrco in Chicago, before the Factory was closed and everything sold to USPC..

I have been told that this VTG Arrco STUD deck does exist by a collector who owns some and I am in the process of trying to work out a deal..

Is this just a myth?  or is there a different back design altogether from arrco and the decks were discontinued and printed in very limited runs so that is the reason no one has any..

A friend told me of a deck of STUDS selling on eBAY for $350..

I am thinking that this may be of the RAREST STUD with the different back design..

I am in talks trying to buy some of these decks and work out a Trade, but I simply have not seen them yet.. Does anyone have one of these decks or ever see them?

Is this guy just pulling my chain? I dont think he would do that and I think they exist, but these are not the same design of the STUDS we all know.. these are VTG ARRCO STUDS and they feel better than VTG Jerrys Nuggets from what I am told.. They Fan and Faro beautifully and the cards linen finsih has never been close to being emulated even by uspcc..

Does anyone own this deck I seek? Would anyone sale a set? I am sure they are pricey which I am prepared to pay for..   Please LMK

Its sad to see STUD era come to an end but to be able to find the 1st GEN arrco STUDS, would make my collection full circle..

Was able to ACQUIRE some today.. These decks do EXIST but are very HARD to FIND......

Sweet. That is a neat back design.  I feel like someone needs to put together a vintage back design web page (non-Bicycle). 

Nice find!  Any idea on manufacture date?

I was able to trade for a few sets with a fellow local collector, who actually worked at the Arrco Factory in Chicago for 35 years until USPC bought them out in 1986.

I was able to trade for a bunch of VTG arrco decks and hope to trade and get more of these STUDS today..

Again, the feel of them is UNDENIABLE and feel exactly the same as VTG ARRCO TAHOES, which many magicians feel are the finest deck of cards ever made..

I was lucky enough to also get some other VTG Arrco decks in a trade, I got  VTG ARRCO "21" Decks, which were Arrcos answer to BEE DECKS..

These decks also have the TAHOE feel, with the linen finish and are FOIL WRAPPED and sticker sealed..

I was able to TRADE for some CLUB CASINO VTG ARRCO DECKS which are also FOIL sealed and Have the ARRCO US REGULATION back design.. These also have the VTG arrco Feel that is so highly desired..

The decks were not cheap to get by TRADE, but are a gem in my collection b/c I know that hardly NO ONE ELSE HAS ANY OF THESE AT ALL, LET ALONE FACTORY SEALED

Yesterday was a great day and Today looks to be even better b/c I am looking to Trade for more of these STUDS..

I already SOLD 1 set, to a collector and am hoping to get a few more decks to Sell today or even Trade with someone...

If any serious collector has any of these VTG Arrco STUD decks please do post some pics and let me know how you got them...

The deck was Discontinued when USPC bought out arrco, and USPC changed the design from what I have been told by the collector I got them from..

Remember that Hoyle made Studs for Walgreens in the late 80s with a similar, if not identical design to the Arrcos. 

These decks are in the brighter red and blue and have a black-on-white "Stud" sticker seal on the top of the decks.  In addition, the tuck boxes are slightly thicker than the USPC or Arrco boxes.  The bottom of the tuck boxes are blank and you may find them without UPC codes (because they were sold as attached to a cardboard hanger) or with UPC codes printed on the bottom of the back design.

The cards have the standard Hoyle faces with the Stud ace and jokers.  The jokers also have the vertical lines in the reverse pip position like many Hoyle jokers.

How about you tell us where you got them so we can try and score some ourselves? After all I don't think it's fair that only you should be able to trade with that person, just so you can profit off of it.

If you want to trade or buy them you can deal with him. He does not have to share where he got them.

I want to get vintage decks for a reasonable price not for what he charges. I don't even care, he can keep his overpriced vintage decks. I'll find hem somewhere else eventually, probably for less than what he is gouging people for.

Any chance you'd be willing to do a couple of decent resolution scans of the backs (red and blue) and PM me?  I am in the VERY early stages of putting together a non-Bicycle vintage back designs website.

If you don't like the price, don't buy them.  "Vintage" and "reasonable price" are seen differently with different eyes.  To some vintage collectors, his price might be very reasonable because they may be worth a good deal more or are just that hard to find.


"Selling to others for a profit" is known as capitalism.  It's how many people make a living.  If you don't like it, I'm sure Fidel Castro will be happy to find a nice, cozy apartment for you somewhere in Cuba.


Stop whining because you can't get a deck at the price you want it.  This is known as "life", so get used to it.  Grow a pair and move on.
