As far as I know the release date is still unknown. They should both be releasing at the same time.

I'm trying to keep an open mind about these since we haven't seen a whole ton of pictures. There are elements to the design that I really like and there are also some elements that I find a little to crazy for my liking. I'm interested in seeing a little more before I write this deck off though.

The box design of the "Black Warrior". (this pic was stolen from Kete's blog...)

The symbol and "北宮玄武" are right, only its name "Black Warrior" sucks.

  • Card for me maybe?
The tuck box does look a little like the stone used for sculptures.. interesting touch to the 'ancient' deck  :)  still looks cluttered and messy though.. just my thoughts on it
Stalking the forums, I'm in that corner!

I feel like the box doesn't give us enough space to breathe. It's too cluttered in my opinion. I hope the cards will be more eye-appealing to me than this box!

Yeah, not a fan of that box!! I feel as if the designer of this deck couldn't pick one or two ideas so s/he just added them all together.

I've complained about their names for a short period of time, it's time to tell the truth: I LIKE THESE DECKS MUCH. I also like the music used in the trailer. I definitely will get all the 4 decks.

For those who don't like the design, you should understand it's traditional Chinese style. Ancient China was a rich and powerful empire that ruled the whole Asia for thousands of years, all daily use items or artworks were gorgeous and complicated. I also like concise style much, but the design of these 4 decks are based on Chinese mythology and they actually do it well.

I wasn't very interested at first - I thought the Pirate decks were a cute novelty, but not much more.  Having heard more about the history behind the story of these decks, I have to say my interest is up.  The goofy split-color pips are a little odd, but the rest seems intriguing.

Any more information about the release of this deck? I've just purchased a couple of the Rosefinch from this series, and people were speculating that both decks would be released at the same time. Not that I'm in any rush to dent my bank account even further.  :karrit:

I think you guys ought to see the full design of the deck to make this kind of judgement. Nothing much has been shown in the photo or video. You don't know how the back design looks like, the court cards, the AoS, or even the details to the box design. Wait until more of the deck is revealed to make the decisions.
I think we have the right to make a judgment as soon as we see some details. And we have already seen the box and some court cards.

Sure you've got the right, I'm just saying you shouldn't. Because there're no details revealed. If you've seen the details to the box and court cards, share it with us. The picture's quite blurred on those parts. All I could tell is the court cards is redesigned, and the box's got a worn-out feel to them.

Zero - he has the right to make a judgment.  It would be either a preliminary judgment, or a blind one, since he's not taking the full concept into account.  He also has a right to run down the street naked, chasing cars and barking like a dog, as long as he's willing to deal with any consequences that result.

Nathan - making a judgment before all the facts are present is foolish, unless you consider it a first judgment, final judgment still pending.  Anything else is a prejudgment of the unknown, and these kinds of judgments never really work out well for everyone involved.

My first judgment on this series is based on the Rosefinch, and I'm not liking what I see so far.  Doesn't mean that by next week I won't utterly fall in love with them for some mysterious, as-yet-unknown reason.  It's how I feel now.

When I do that, I usually try to add something new as well - like that paragraph at the end...  I'm not perfect, but I don't like "me too" posters and I try not to be one myself.

That box looks a lot like the Rosefinch one which is expected. And the back design is extremely similar. I don't like what I see so far...  :(

I might buy 2 of each. (When I buy 1 or 2 of newly released decks, it means I don't like them much but just feel I should have them...)

Is anyone buying these? I persoanlly hate them, they are a little better then the Rosenfinch but not by much.
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

Hmm I actually really like those. I was gonna order from pokerstud eventually, might add two of those to my order. The rosefinch was a bit of a mess with the different colored ace of spades and all, but that one seems a little more consistent and I really like the back, even as a one-way. For flourishing, it's not really that big of a deal.

I DESPISE the box, AoS, back, and joker, but I love all the other court and face cards.
PS: What is up with all this high-priced Bicycle decks nowadays ????!!!!!

When I first heard of this series, I thought they might be interesting.  But as I'm seeing them, I'm not.

It's an art deck that isn't artistic enough, and a playing card deck that's not so easy for playing with.  Flourishing with them might be cool, but countless decks that are better looking already fit the bill.  To me, it's a little too alien to want to use in a magic routine.  It seems to be aimed strictly at "All your Bicycle are belong to us!" collectors and aficionados of Chinese/Asian folklore.

This would have been an awesome project if Eric Duan had taken an approach more similar to the Blue Blood deck, where there's real artistry and each card has some nice touches to it, not just the faces and the AoS.  And no, making half the pips in outline doesn't cut it for me.  The faces look like he clipped some patterns and pasted them into standard faces like a collage - some may love this, but I'm not one of them.

Just my opinions, folks.  You can go about your business now...

I'm not exactly amazed by them either, but I still really like how it looks overall, enough to buy a few decks. I have no intention of owning the complete series, though. I won't get Rosefinch because the vase looks a little clumsy and the different colored ace of spades is a stupid idea imo, but this one I like enough to buy a deck or two. Not because the artist did an especially good job - it really isn't worth much from a critical point of view - it just looks nice enough for my eyes.
