Wayne Houchin, creator of Distortion, sinful, thread, stigmata and many awesome effects has recently been burnt by the host while soon a show in the Dominican Republic.

Here's the article

Why would the host do that? I simply don't understand. Although I do not know Wayne personally, his magic has influenced me. I pray for his speedy recovery and hope his burnt right hand doesn't hinder his magical abilitites and hinder him from creating more awesome effects.

It's truly sad to see someone willing to do something like that to a beloved member of the magic community. My dearest thoughts are with him, hoping him a quick recovery.

Simply because he thought it was real magic. Generally, people from the Caribbean are superstitious about evil spirits. How were witches killed, way back when? Burned.
My heart goes out to Wayne and I wish him a fast and complete recovery.

I'd buy that if it was some backwater witch doctor or country bumpkin.  This is a television host.  He should know something of the modern world by now, and that magic isn't "real" in the sense of witches and curses and whatever.

It wouldn't surprise me if the host was feeling like Wayne was messing with his reality a bit.  I've seen this kind of reaction before.  It's partly a reaction to not knowing what the hell is going on, partly a reaction to not being the center of attention.  It was idiotic to react that way - and yes, criminal.  I hope that numbskull was arrested and is awaiting a trial on assault charges.

I don't know Wayne personally, but I did have breakfast with him and his wife Fran at Magi - Fest in Ohio and recently attended one of his lectures here in the Chicagoland area where I am from.   Like many others, Wayne really inspired me as a magician and I own all of his effects.   His effect "French Kiss" is truly a gem and I blow people away all the time when performing it.   Wayne is a super funny guy and fun to be around.   When your around him it makes you feel like he is just one the guys, or one of your buds.   And his wife Fran is very nice and fun herself.   It saddens me to hear this happened to Wayne but my thoughts and prayers go out to him, his wife Fran, and both their families.   I'm looking forward to updates on his status as they come.

What's ironic is that, after torching Wayne, it looks like the host show sympathy for him.

Not really. He was violently rubbing Wayne's head afterwards, and the camera guy had to tell him to stop touching him. It looked more like a "Oh shit I better make this seem like an accident" sort of reaction.

The whole legal pendulum that accompanied the incident was kinda terrible  :(. Wayne was stuck there as the host fled to the US.
