For now I am just posting the back design. (Larger format posted) Feedback is appreciated.

Also, what do people think of abstract face cards?

I love the colors, but the image is a tad small to see any depth to the design, if there is any.

The back is OK, so far.  Like Alex said, show us a bigger image.

As far as abstract faces - when done well, they're gorgeous.  When done poorly, they're horrible.  It really depends on the design.  Look on the NDR at two Kickstarter projects, one completed (Vanda) and the other in progress (Lucent), both popular abstract decks.  Then look at another KS project that's active (Simple) for a design only a mother could love.

When you really get down to it, unless you're making some highly realistic/photographic images, all decks have some degree of abstraction to them.

I just put up another image, I am trying to keep the design simple, Here is an example of one of the face cards I am thinking of using.

It's OK.  But consider not going too simple on the design.  If you want it to stand out, you might want to jazz it up some.  We've had plenty of simple by now.

Check this deck out, made by someone who's been known to participate here now and then:

Completely abstract, without being simple - or boring.

I agree with Don. I like the direction this is going, but I feel it just needs a little bump detail-wise. There's lots of direction you could take with this, but I feel the most important thing at this stage is to just make sure you don't kill it with detail or make it overly simple. (HintHintWinkWink)  It looks good so far, though.  :)

I'm still working on upping the level of detail in the cards, but in the meantime here are a few photos of the prototype box. Critique them if it pleases you.  :D

It's simple and elegant, but I don't think the brown background is doing you any favors.  It takes the elegant and makes it a bit dull.  I'll grant you it's a prototype.

Were you considering jazzing it up with any foil or embossing or the like?  Or a custom deck seal?

My inkjet cant ever get a rich black or dark grey, I probably should have 'shopped the photos a bit. The box is meant to be the same color as the cards up at the top. I was not planning on doing and foil but embossing and a custom seal were on my to-do list.

How do you make a prototype box like that?

I like the box. Could use a custom seal. (if you plan to do one) To me, matte boxes with a bit of embossing, possibly some foil, look ridiculously classy. You should also consider tucking a reveal somewhere on the box for a nice touch. Looks good!
