Playing cards in films

Just thought I'd post this so that we can have a discussion of which decks we've seen in movies.

I know for a fact that in James Bond 'Goldfinger' that at the start in Miami, Auric Goldfinger is cheating whilst playing some sort of card game with a client of his. They are using original Aristocrat 727 Banknote Decks. This movie was made in 1964, which makes these cards older than Jerry's.

What other movies can you spot cards in? I'm sure there are many others in various Bond films.

I'm trying to remember the name of this movie but am having a hard time.

One of the main characters does flourishes with cards throughout the film. It's some kind of gorey assassin movie I believe, released recently.

And I believe the cards of choice were Tally-Ho's.

Actually, I think it was only one of the two Bucks - but I couldn't tell you which without some research.

All the casino decks and chips used in "Casino Royale" (the Daniel Craig version!) were provided by Cartamundi - and those exact same chips and decks were put up for sale after the movie opened.  They're now all collector's items.  A 200-chip poker set with two CR decks, one red, one black, is on eBay now for nearly $225 in bidding.

I couldn't rightly say, but they aren't the CR decks I mentioned - those look like a Bee clone with "Casino Royale" on each half of the back.  Ironically, they used the borderless version, probably because it looks so much nicer on camera, despite the fact that there's hardly a casino left that isn't using some kind of bordered card.

In all likelihood, however, they were probably also Cartamundi.  Quite likely that both deck types were versions of a casino deck they already had in production, just with custom-printed backs.  I would have loved that set, but my wife would kill me, especially seeing as how the seller is in the UK and there's likely to be Customs on top of shipping fees.

Even though its not exactly a deck, I'd also like to mention that in Diamonds are Forever that there are multiple scenes of Bond being chased by cops passed the Golden Nugget Gambling Hall in a red Mustang. If I'm correct that was a fastback to be specific

I also think in Oceans 11 the cards at the table were MGM Grand Casino Cards as well as Bellagio Casino Cards.

I remember one time during the climax of an episode of "Law and Order", the crew walked in to see a bloody man brutally murdered on a poker table with cards scattered, to which I said "Those are Tally-Ho Crcle backs!" (Which got everyone angry because something important was being said, and they couldn't hear it.)

I just finished watching "21" on cable channel FX, and now "Rounders" is on - what a combo!

It occurred to me as I watched "21" for the second time ever that they're using genuine casino decks for the film shoot - right down to the canceled, round-trim non-index corners!  Not a single deck in that film wasn't authentic, but none were uncanceled, either!

"Rounders" - at the opening scene table (and later against Teddy KGB), they're using Kem Arrows.  At the table with the judges and professors, Bicycle Rider Backs in blue.  Edward Norton's character, Worm, as he's leaving jail, same deck.  I recall Bikes get a lot of play in this film.

Although I can't think of any specifics off the top of my head from movies, but I know people always get annoyed when I point them out.

"Law and Order" was a legit New York show.  Tally Ho, outside of magic shops, is a genuine New York brand, not sold elsewhere.

EDIT: I just spotted something in "Rounders", an old New York landmark that I've been to before - Billy's Topless!  It wasn't half as sleazy as they make it out to be.  It was actually pretty friendly and pleasant compared to most strip joints.

2ND EDIT: I also spotted a pack of Aviators when they were playing in the Greek diner - lots of USPC product placement in this movie...

I think the movie that you are talking about is "Smokin Aces" . Sorry for posting this i didn't see sr15's post .

As people above have mentioned, Now You See Me and that new magic movie featuring Will Farrell are pretty cool ones I plan on checking out.

As for movies I've watched, "21", like Don mentioned, was something I simply outstanding.

As for types of cards used, I haven't noticed anything other than standard 'ole Bicycles used. After all, they are the most recognized design in the industry.

Gotta be the most famous card scene ever...the poker game on the train in THE STING. They play with red Tally-Ho Fan Backs. Prior to the game, Newman/Gondorf warms up with Blue Rider Backs.

This may not be a movie reference, but I found out that D&D were hand doubles in the kids show Lazy Town.

In Oceans 13, they showed courts and an ace that looks like this deck.


I've heard this referred to as a Bank deck, Does anyone know what the deck actually is?
And this next picture shows something that looks like an Asian casino deck with the word Bank on it.
