Beta testing over - Awards posted here!

I know you guys have been hard at work creating content on the forums to post in before their official launch. I decided to add some rewards and initiatives for people who contribute a lot. The official launch is the 10th, the same day our Kickstarter goes up.

Here are the rewards, and what you need to get them:

25 posts - The Discourse Beta Tester badge
50 posts - The Discourse Elite Beta Tester badge
100 posts - Custom avatar + signature
200 posts - An extra Vortex deck bundled with your pledge on Kickstarter after the project is fully funded*
250 posts - Bolded username

* Whether or not you are spamming to achieve your post count is fully in my discretion. Before posting, ask yourself if you are contributing to the thread. Is your post humorous? Intellectual? Insightful? Are you posting a new thread that spurs discussion, or are you just making a thread to boost your post count?

Spammers will be disqualified from the competition. Still, if you want to get your sillies out or post off-topic, there is always The Talk Park for that.


More rewards:

3 referrals - Recruiter forum badge
5 referrals - Elite Recruiter forum badge
10 referrals - Italic username
25 referrals - An extra Vortex deck bundled with your pledge on Kickstarter after the project is fully funded

How to recruit someone:
When they sign up and are approved for membership, they must complete the following tasks to count as one referral for you:

1. Introduce themselves in the intro board, clearly stating that it is YOU who referred them here.
2. Make at least five, non-spam posts.

Keep in mind, we can tell who is who, so if you make fake accounts, you will be disqualified.


Remember guys, as of this post, there are still five days to work towards your rewards. Most of you already have some basic ones completed, so that's good.

I am going to plee with you Alex to hold a decent standard to what a post should be. Nothing frustrates me more than meaningless posts, for the sake of adding to your post count. I my opinion, each post ( or as many as possible ) should add to the discussion in one way or another. It is much more important to have a productive forum filled with posts the initiate thought provoking discussion than to have one with countless posts that add nothing to a discussion. I by no means am perfect with all of my posts, but I try to make each and every post I make as insightful and useful to the community as possible.

Honestly, I think 200 posts is a little high. I think as of now I have the most posts, but with 5 days left and 150 more comments, it will be hard for anyone to make that goal of 200 comments, without it seeming like they are spamming the whole page.

It's not supposed to be an easy to reach number. Nor is it impossible to reach.

If you want to make it easier, create topics. The more topics there are, the more there is to post about.

@Curt: Meaningless posts will always be around. I trust the community to ignore them and push towards intelligent discussion. Moderation for mindless spam will be harsh, but for the most part I expect you guys to take the boards in the direction you want them to go.

Just so theirs no misunderstanding is it 200 posts by the 10th or is it 200 posts by the time the decks get shipped.

You guys are doing an awesome job with activity here but I have noticed a slight problem. While nobody is outright spamming, I think maybe 1/5 posts are very "meh" in quality.

Let's strive to reduce this number to zero.

You guys have plenty of time to meet the threshold, there is no reason to rush and post something that doesn't add to the discussion.

Remember, the goal is to keep this forum both intellectual and fun. There is a time and place for each, and over time I expect you guys to do an amazing job keeping certain threads on the correct respective course.

I would prefer if you, as well as everyone else, avoided the simple "I agree" posts. These rewards I am offering are for helping create -content- before the official launch, not direct incentives to just inflate your post count.

Keep in mind, post counts will be adjusted to reflect the true value of your posts. Don't hyper-inflate them.

Don't double post if you're not bumping either, just edit your original post.

The rewards are designed so that somebody who posts a lot and makes quality posts will attain 250 by Sunday night just barely.
