Learned about this at 52cartes, did more research at primepokercards.com - they've updated the site.

The Noir deck appears to be a nod to the Fulton's Clip Joint and Casino decks, but it's supposed to actually tell a story.

Didn't give us much in the teaser. It'll definitely be interesting if all the courts are styled like that.

Hey did the Pr1me decks really handle close to JNuggs like they try and advertise? I have the Pr1me sketch decks and they don't seem too different from other custom decks. Just wondering if they handled special.

They handle well enough, I'd say, but they didn't seem terribly exceptional in the handling category to me.  Call it a better-than-average deck, average being USPC's off-the-shelf brands/models.

Hmmm "well enough" sounds like the appropriate description. What a shame. I was going to pick up a deck if they were special. Thanks again Don.

Look, the Pr1me Sketch deck was likely made at the same press at the Series 001, 2nd Ed.  If you felt that was a good deck for you performance-wise, then the Series 001s will probably suit you fine.  Also, some people go for the artwork in a deck, not just the performance.

And, by the way, comparing them to Jerry's Nugget cards is not exactly a fair comparison.  Few decks out today handle like those do, or so I'm told since I don't own any and have perhaps once touched them.  (It was kinda funny - Lee Asher was doing a few experiments with the cards and there were several of them in various stages of being cut apart...I could imagine collectors everywhere, jaws dropping to the floor so fast they break on impact...)  But my point is, they handle just fine.  It's not Magic Finish slippery, but some people actually dislike MF because they feel it has too much glide, making the cards harder to handle.  They're good cards, better than average.

It boggles my mind at times how obsessed some people get about stocks, finishes and handling.  I'll grant that there are some cards as dumpy and clumpy as cow pies, but the vast majority of current-issue custom decks (and not just from USPC) handle pretty fine if you ask me.  There's no point in splitting hairs about exactly how thick this stock is compared to that or how snappy or slippery or shiny or whatever that they happen to be.  There's a range that's considered great for performing by the majority of people, and all modern custom decks fall into that category.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with everything you said. I was just curious as to if they were something special that I must have. You can't find Pr1me decks anywhere "cheap". If they were special I want to know so that I can prepare myself in spending some cash to get them. If they're good decks, as not super special, then I can fight the urge to own one! That was my whole point in wondering :)

Plus, I like the artwork but I don't like buying them at an inflated price (my definition of not "cheap").

Tannen's Magic has the blue Series 001, 2nd Ed. and the Sketch deck for the lowest prices. In my opinion they are well worth it. They feel very similar to the new Legends deck that just came out and they really look amazing.

Thanks! I'll probably pick up the blue Series 001, 2nd Ed. I already have a Pr1me Sketch deck and don't feel the need for another one yet. Thanks for the info :D

It's actually a good idea to experiment now and then and pick up decks that weren't made in Cincinnati or Erlanger...  The Series 001 1st Ed. were made in Italy (hard to find those) and all others since are made in China.  Say what you want about China, but they actually have the capacity to make some impressive decks of cards.  I met Lee Asher last spring after he returned from a tour through Asia and he had a lot to say on the topic.  (We all know they also make some very crappy decks.  The reason for this is that until recently, most of the best decks made in China were actually reserved for domestic use and sale!)

Just found this on 52 Cartes. States that Pr1me Noir will be available around June 15 (I'm assuming of this year) on primepokercards.com. It also had this picture posted along with it.

That fedora (and I use the term loosely) looks more like it belongs on the head of a scarecrow...  The comic-book art isn't doing it for me.

:D now that you mention it, that "fedora" does look a lot like a scarecrow hat :)) not very fitting and it sticks out now that I notice it. But the comic-book art actually doesn't turn me off too much at the moment. I guess we'll have to see more of the deck to know for sure. Regardless, I'm still interested!

[Edit-I am mistaken when I say 002; this should be 001. All apologies.]

Heads up to all the prime 1st edition; these are from Italy and shrink wrapped outside the box. The box has a seal on it as well. Don also informed me awhile ago that the hair detail lines in the angel are very faint on this box in comparison to the 002 edition.
There is also a big goof in the blue version. There are two versions; I believe that they inserted the paper the wrong direction during printing for a large batch. The misprints are nearly impossible to le Paul spread but feel over worn(or dead) when bowed the length of the card. I have a brick of these and figured out that the misprint is a darker blue box while the true version (like the reds) is in a lighter blue. The color difference is extremely subtle, I tried to photograph the difference for y'all but it doesn't come out. Best way to tell is to hold it up to a light and look at the graphite pattern.

The 2nd editions; still says 001 and italy on bottom but they are different. The cards inside the box are shrink wrapped and there are two extra cards in this deck. One of the prime seal logo with the wing angel and the other a blonde wearing red and says play responsibly at bottom. The sketch decks also have these two extra cards as well as stickers.

I have handled all three decks and in my opinion the 001's have the best finish while the sketch deck has the worst. The finishes are all essentially the same but every so slightly different. Maybe the true first edition has three coats....

I love this deck because I can do lifts easy as cake as well as other simple tricks. Then I can switch over and do a few flourishes no problem. It's my perfect middle of the road deck. Plus it has über thin boarders which I will always dig.

Ben, there's been three releases SO FAR from Pr1me - 001 First Ed., 001 Second Ed. and Sketch.  Two upcoming releases are 001 Third Ed. and Noir.  We have other topics for the first three decks mentioned, the ones that are already in release.

When you say that the 001s have the best finish, WHICH 001s are you talking about?

When you say you've tried "all three" - WHICH three?  Series 001 Third Ed. isn't in release yet as far as I know.

Don, Sorry about that. When I say they have the best finish I am referring to the true 001 first editions. The ones that are shrink wrapped on the outside of the box.

By all three I am referring to 001 first edition, 001 second edition, and sketch as previously mentioned.

below is a line up of the blue decks; two different version of 001 first edition including the misprint with the sideways card stock on far left (on bottom on second photo). Then far right is the 001 second edition.

Quite interesting and I'd be in for some, but that shipping is killer.  Will CARC be carrying these as well like the other deck or is there a different venue to purchase their decks from that doesn't require selling a kidney to cover the shipping to the US?

There's a good chance that CARC will carry it, but it's not a certainty.  I'll ask Bill when I'm in touch with him next.
