I am by no means an expert at it, but do have a bit of success. I would say that have better luck with it when I do the flick motion gently, without much force since it doesn't tak much to get the deck all the way around. If I push hard, the deck can tend to fly all over. Obviously an older pack of cards will probably help since they are not as slick as a brand new deck and should hold during the spin nicer. I also think that exactly where you hold the deck on the sides plays a key role on how the cards react in the air. Sometimes, my finger holding the deck is a little too much over the top card and can pull that away as the deck starts the revolution. I would say play around with exactly where to place your fingers and how much pressure you initiate the flip with.
