I can, too - through either a Playstation 3 or a Mac mini, which, combined with my cable DVR, are all patched into a nice-sized flatscreen.

Netflix has a selection of some smaller/independent movies that you won't find on TV or at Blockbuster - you do some searching around, you'd be surprised what you'll find.

Breaking Bad, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Walking Dead, Top Gear, Bob's Burgers, Sports Night, Better off Ted, Black Books, Black Adder, and Red Dwarf to start. Although I do agree, Netflix is becoming kind of stagnant, same stuff, not much new I want to see lately.

Ah, I see. I had to convince one of my coworkers the other day that cables are pretty darn cheap if you look hard enough so I had that in my mind when I read your post.


Back on topic: modi listed everything I like or is in my queue already. Everyone keeps telling me to watch Firefly but I haven't seen it yet.

"Firefly" and "Serenity" are some good stuff - it's a shame the show lasted for only one short season.  It had lots of potential, which, since it was on Fox, got wasted.  It was a bad sign when they switched out the pilot for what I recall was the fourth episode...makes it harder to understand the movie when you start watching in the middle.

There's a decent (not great, just decent) collection of anime there as well.  You can probably find some of the staples of the genre, like "Cowboy Bebop" and "Ghost in the Shell" (both the shows and the movies).

Unless it's just me not reading properly I have yet to see Dexter mentioned. This is the greatest tv show to ever exist, so if you haven't already seen it then check it out. Also if your up late and bored and have two hours two waste, watch The Bridge. Can't beat a documentary on bridge jumpers haha.

I've been with Netflix for years, well before they had streaming. I think the strongest part of their streaming is the large collection of Television series and the passport,ent of Documentaries they have available. With the way their site is setup, you have to really dig around to find some of the good stuff though!

I just saw Painted Skin 2: The Resurrection. It's a Chinese romance/action/fantasy film, and I liked it a lot. I've also been watching the comedy series Portlandia.

Definitely House of Cards. It is only available through Netflix. Kevin Spacey is great and I really enjoyed the series.

Series?  I thought it was just one movie?  Or are we talking about two utterly different things?

EDIT: just Googled it - never mind...  I was confusing it with "House of Games", starring Joe Mantegna.  I hear that is one excellent film, just haven't gotten around to watching it yet.
