  • Kickstarter:
New project on Kickstarter.

Here's some specs:

Name: Labelle Playing cards
Printed by USPCC
Bicycle card stock
Magic finish
Print run: Not yet stated

The price of a single deck of playing cards is $12 or less (depending on pledge level)

The deck is not something for me.. looks kinda uncompleted to me

Any opinions about the deck? Are anybody going to pledge? I think I'll pass  ;)

The joker looks kinda funny though  :P

The project has a long description of the author's life and how he got into magic and what his father's artwork means to him. Gotta respect what he's been through and how he got here.  I'm a huge fan of custom courts especially, and I really wanted to like these. But the artwork hit a wrong note for me.  Can't put my finger on exactly what gives me that offnote. The $12 price with no early-bird doesn't sing to me either.  Strike three was the nudity--I get where he's coming from and it's not over the top or anything.  But that doesn't make it any better for bridge night in my house. For me, this Kickstarter is a Nonstarter.

I'm unsure on how I feel about that back design. Apparently the artist tried to make his own version of a Maiden Back incorporating elements of his father's artwork. Can't really say I dislike the product, but I think it lacks a bit of attention to detail.

Court cards - in other hand - are looking good to me. Am I seeing things or some of those Queens look a lot like Audrey Hepburn and Bette Davis?

I kind of like these, but I'm just not a huge fan of skulls. I understand people's fascination with them, and most times I can take them or leave them in a design element, but I think that I'm about 49% like, 51% dislike on these. Makes me think of Tarot cards too much, and I personally have no interest in those. I'm going to have to pass.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

Like the deck, don't like the price.

BTW: changed topic title - the deck's actual name is the Mystic deck, as seen in the photo subtitles.  "LaBelle" is just what's written over the spade on the AoS, and is the name of the project creator.

I don't think that the back design is too bad, I am not personally a fan of skulls, but the pattern isn't horrible. Besides price, I am not really a fan of the court cards for this deck, just not really my style. Definitely not the worst deck to have been offered up on Kickstarter.
