Alright... a new playing card project is live at KS!

Vict Playing Cards by FIRO Playing Cards

Specs (from the KS project page):
Metallic coating
Custom USPCC white and gold seal
Aristocrat stock
Custom tuck box
Air Cushioned Finish
Custom faces, courts and jokers
White and black gaff card
Ace of Clubs inner tuck box reveal (I'm really interested in this one)
Joker reveal

The color scheme in pretty much just red and gold.. looks nice IMO :)
The pips on the court cards has a golden outline, which I think is really nice looking
The joker is simple... ME, I don't know about the joker
The back is a repeating pattern, guess it's not a hidden 1-way back ;)
The tuck box is VERY simple, almost only white

MOD EDIT: someone forgot the link...  http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/firoplayingcards/vict-playing-cards

  • Ugh, I wish I had money for THAT deck!
Would the inner box Ace of Clubs reveal be the one on the flaps of the case? And I like the pips and the joker is not too plain for me but I don't really like them. The white box is interesting and I personally like it. Altogether, not a bad deck but I think I'll wait a little to back it.

You beat me to it - I was adding these to the New Deck Report as you created this topic!

I like the design and decided that nabbing the two-deck early bird for $9 a deck was far better than paying the MUCH HIGHER price for non-early birds...full price for singles is $13 and full price each for pairs is $11.50...

BTW, gang: when you're so eager to post a new KS project, could you kindly include the LINK to it in the first post, like this:

As Don said in the New Deck Report, the company producing Vict decided to pull the project and put it back up.
The re-launched Vict playing cards are now live:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/victplayingcards/vict-playing-cards-0

There are only a handful of early bird spots available.
The first five at $8 are all gone.
Only six left in the second set at $9.
Regular price is $12.

The early bird two-fers are very limited as well.  $18 for a pair early bird ... only 16 are left.
Regular price for two is $20.
Funding goal is $5,000.

[EDIT: All the early birds for one deck and two decks are now gone.  The only early birds left are for combo pledges with T-shirts and uncuts.]

That regular price (single) is down a buck from $13.
And the regular price for a pair is down $3 from $23.
Oh, and the funding goal is a third of what it was before ... just $5,000 instead of the previous $15K

As projected, the FIRO name is gone.  The company is now identified as Vict Playing Cards.
The company's website link on the KS page doesn't work.
This link does work:  http://www.victplayingcards.com/

The $5,000 goal instead of $15,000 is due to the fact that they are going with TMcards instead of USPC.  They have a stretch goal of $15,000 to go with USPC.  I'll back for now, but if they're nowhere near $15k, I'll probably bow out.

Right there, I think this project just shot itself in the foot.  Either go for USPC or don't - trying to use it as an overfunding lure will cause many if not most to hold off until the overfund target is reached, which will be hard to impossible with so many people standing on the sidelines.  Worse, if the project manages to reach over 100% of goal but is falling short of the extra cash needed for the overfund, many backers will do as you've suggested, possibly sucking enough cash out of the pledges to cause it to fall back below 100% at the last minute.  It would be like having the rug pulled out from under you - very messy and disappointing.

Seems this project met it's goal at $9270 just a few hours ago. For all that backed, you get a new deck! I held off on backing this project then totally forgot about it :))

I am definitely a fan of the tuck, nice and minimal, suits my style. The backs are a bit of a different story, but still seem decent. Then bottom of the page reads:

"STRETCH GOAL>>>> $9972

Hello to everyone! After getting some support from my fellow Card Enthusiast, I managed to come up with the above number to try and Print these cards with USPC. So if we collectively support this project, we have some time left to try and reach this stretch goal!! "

Does that mean they missed printing with USPC by 700 bucks? That would be a bit of shame.

That would also be odd, since they previously posted it as a stretch goal at $15,000...  Perhaps they realized they could manage it with a shorter USPC print run at the stretch goal you listed?

Wonder if they realize that it's close enough that even without the funds coming 100% from the backers, they'd fish out the remaining $700 just to go with USPCC. Oh and I do agree with you, the tuck is very nice!

While that's not impossible, it's also not entirely likely.  If I asked you right now to "fish out" that much cash and to do so before a deadline (to avoid delaying the printing and distribution schedule), there's a good chance you'd be hard pressed to do it in time, particularly if you're like most adults who have bills, expenses, dine out now and then, take the occasional vacation, and don't have a great deal of disposable, uncommitted income at any given time.  Because if they could come up with that much cash quickly that wasn't pre-earmarked for something else, they're probably well-off enough to self-fund a deck project with USPC!

It's not a matter of them "realizing" anything - it's a matter of how much cash they have saved for when things go sideways and pear-shaped...

I just wish I'd remembered to back this in time.  I track these blasted projects every day, and still manage to forget to actually back some of them!  It saves me money in a backhanded sort of way, but it can be the difference between a goal being met or not, especially if everyone who forgets to back starts backing, and scouring the after-market looking for it won't help if the deck never gets created in the first place.

I had totally forgot about this in the haze of new and (some) mediocre Kickstarter projects. I like saving money by slowing down the collecting/buying but there are projects I would like to support or decks I'd like to get without having to look after-market.
