I'm not sure what I feel about the courts yet, but I'm liking those spot cards quite a bit.  The creator, Candace Bonsteel, is working to keep the deck traditional but unique, using at least some of the same "secondary identifiers" as you'd find on standard USPC faces, such as the correct one-eyed Jacks, etc.  I'm also not sure about the back yet, but I'm leaning toward "like" there as well.

The problem is that it's yet-another recent project priced at $15 a deck.  By the time you hit the five-deck tier, they're still $12 a deck.  Pass.

Damn you, Pedale Design!  :))

Great design. Love it!
But this is becoming a bad habit... 15 + shipping is just too much. If they keep coming with these prices, I'll stop pledging even if I love the decks. And probably many more will do the same.

One can hope, but it's tough to buck a trend like this.

  • Ugh, I wish I had money for THAT deck!
I can understand $15 for a deck with a tuck fully equipped with embossing and foil and the cards with metallic ink everywhere. But a fairly standard deck for $15? That screams a presumptuous attitude to me. I don't like when people assume they can charge more because they spent more time on something. I guess because there's a precedence sent by the Pedale deck but still... Doesn't sit right with me.

To be fair, various card designers are saying the USPCC has increased their prices.

Even so. $15 for a mediocre deck at best? Nope, nope, nope, and nope.

At first glance - looking at that back design - I thought this was the green Cthulhu deck, or another deck by Albino Dragon within that same style.

Well, besides the ridiculously high price, that tuck box is what is killing it for me. It just doesn't seem to relate with the artwork in the cards.

Furthermore, "The Four Elements" seem to be another recurring theme in playing card projects.

I've seen maybe a couple of "four elements" projects on KS - and I don't think any of them were successful.  Food for thought...  :))

I can see something like E's Fathom deck being the start of a "Four Elements" series (not deck). I personally liked the style and design of that deck quite a lot. But this deck (the deck this thread was started for) doesn't really wow me.

Funny you should say that, seeing as how Fathom is the first in a planned four-deck series by Ellusionist covering the four elements...  :))

I wish the court art for these was more refined.  And the box design is just plain strange for me.  Toss in the price and it's just too much.

Food for better work... and better artworks  ;)

Hmm if it was mentioned somewhere here on the forums maybe that's where I got the idea that it'd be nice :)) if so, I'm looking forward to it.

And I feel the green of this tuck is a little out of place... Maybe not the right color in my eyes. Should be something a little less... Foresty if it's a "four elements" deck.

See I don't see why all these decks are selling for $15 when there are decks just as good - if not better - selling for $6 or $7.
Do you guys even read this? Like I could have the meaning of life here and I doubt you would know it.

On the one hand, you are neglecting that shipping within the US is included.  But on the other hand, even factoring in that included shipping cost, it's NOT cheap.  It's less than three bucks to ship a deck First Class Mail.
