The back is interesting, but the geometric pips are way overdone as a theme by now and I'm not liking the courts much.  I'll pass this time.

I'm gonna have to agree with Don here on the pips. I find myself tired of these type of pips. I don't mind the courts and the back design is nice.

I have to say from the video to the KS page layout, it was very well done.  I personally liked the original concept for non-faced court cards, just with better crowns.  But I still like the deck well enough to give it my support.

Yes sir, the back is a lot better this time around, I never open my decks so I could live with the pips, but still don't know if I will pledge or not.

thanks guys. I couldnt really think of anything else for the pips that represented diamond cut like that. although, i have been working on a new tuck box design and might possibly go with the old back. the new tuck and back would look like this.

let me know what you think about that.

Thanks,
Dave

I like the new box design - simple and elegant.  And along those lines, have you considered using the design of an actual diamond cut as your deck back?  The top ten diamond cuts are:

Round
Princess
Oval
Marquise
Pear
Cushion
Emerald
Asscher
Radiant
Heart

Of those ten designs, only one is a true rectangle, the emerald cut.  Unfortunately it's also a little bland.  However, there are some square cuts that could be elongated into rectangular shapes that are more visually interesting: princess, cushion, Asscher, and radiant cuts.  The Asscher is very similar to the emerald, but has more cuts to it, while the others are all totally unique when compared to the emerald cut.

You could make it very beautiful using just a single gem cut - and if you do it right, you could hide a marking system in there, if you were so inclined...  :))  Or at least a hidden one-way mark!

I guess David isn't going to wait for the eventual ending on KS, then again it takes 4 weeks before JSC will allow him to go to live event.  I wish him luck, I gave him my vote.

Something really bizarre has been going on with this KS project.  For over two weeks now, it keeps bouncing back and forth between approximately $3.2k and $3.3k.  It's like there's this one guy who can't make up his mind about whether to back or not!

This project closes Friday 9 August - jump in now while you can...

The man's not having good luck - he canceled his Bicycle Stigmata deck last week, likely due to a poor support level.  He had too much ground to cover in too little time.

I think he might get it this time. 2 of the previous tries were $1,200+ and the Bicycle branded got to $3,400

He started this AGAIN??  Bloody hell.

Well, it's clear he's not using USPC to print, so there goes the collector's market for the most half.  I'm too lazy to even add this to the NDR for now.  What is this, attempt four?

David is a good guy and eager to please.  That's probably part of the problem.  Trying to please too many.
1.  I like the black tuck box
2.  I don't like the card back
3.  I liked the original concept for court cards (Crowns) but they needed to be edited
4.  I appreciate the mimickery of standard court cards, but I don't love them
5.  I still pledged for a deck because he shows promise and drive

What I think David lacks is someone standing over his shoulder to tell him, "I wouldn't do that".

That is where you are wrong.  I consulted him on the newer design and worked with him to produce a professional trailer and tell him how to lay it all out.  Then when I went on vacation he tore it all down and put up the old design.  I know from personal experience that his weakness is consistency and just being willing to see anything through until the end.

So what you're saying is that I'm right.  You were standing over his shoulder telling him "I wouldn't do that" and the second you weren't there he did it anyway.  By the way, i loved the video on the last project that was great.  I hope you didn't consult with him on Stigmata because that wasn't great.  The art was fine but the only people I know who'd be interested is the group of nun's at the convent down the road.

Either way, David will see this one through as he's nearly funded and yes he did have to go with a different printer but many of the people who liked his stuff weren't stuck on USPCC.

hmmm. ???

Thank you Alex, As robert said, he did consult me on the last deck of diamond cut. However just because he consulted me doesnt mean that it was correct. The campaign was already at a big failing point when i had changed the design. I did not go crazy how ever and change the whole thing. I just made a small adjustment to the box. That was not why i didnt fund. I had a week left and 3k. Wasnt gonna fund at that point no matter what. A lot of people on united cardists were bashing me because i worked with robert. I dont know why but they did. I still think robert is a good consultant. I just think that some things could of been different. Either way im not giving up on my deck. I put a lot of work into it and i want people to have the deck. MPC is not a bad company but hopfully next time i can get funded through the uspcc on my upcoming designs. Thank you Alex for the respectful criticism most people just talk trash and you didnt. Maybe you can help me on my next coming decks. cheers

David I really hope it works out for you man I just wish you would take baby steps.  I feel your want it so bad that your not thinking it through and giving it the time it deserves.  The Loop Cuts deck took 7 months of hard work and critical planning and it still didn't hit goal.  Nothing you put up over a few weeks time is going to cut it with the USPCC.  I wish you the best, just wanted to give you some last minute advice.

Ha ha, yeah you got me on that Alex.  I didn't consult on the Stigmata however.  I didn't know about it until it was live on Kickstarter.

thanks Alex,

yes, its true. robert helped me on my last bicycle version. I think he did a good job but I just dont think the deck was good enough to blow up. I relaunched it because I just dont want to see it die. I feel like i can revamp it in the future in a different style and get it funded with bicycle. you gotta remember, The diamond deck is my first deck of cards. I would want nothing more than to see it succeed in any way.

I fully understand, I don't want my work to go to waste.  But to be a huge hit I think there are some standards that we are both missing.  It's a learning experience, some are just at the head of the class and I'm just trying to copy of their test paper.  I once thought that art was enough, then I thought design was enough...but there's much more to it.  The right art, the right theme, an audience already committed to your work and if you can create it...a good reputation.  Plus luck and lots and lots and lots of friends. :)
