I thought the bacon meme was passed and we moved on to moustaches... either way, it's cute.  It's not scratching in my pocket to separate with some cash cute, but it has a charm...and I do love bacon! :)

We're looking at a few options for bacon scenting the decks, but the plan is to make em smell like bacon one way or another - more details once we make a decision.

Also, check out this video that shows the "Bakin' with Bacon" card game that I designed as part of this project:

Just kidding. I think it's kind of adorable! Not a big fan of no borders though...but that's just a personal opinion.

It's a style choice.  It's not my favorite choice, but it works for this deck, I think.  Remember, the deck is also a promo for a business as well as being a deck of cards, and the back design fits the store's theme to a tee.

You guys should have finalized bacon scenting methods before launching the KS, in my opinion.

Tuck cases are outsourced, anyway. Why not just have the inside and outside contain scratch n' sniff patches? The user could scratch the tuck case for bacon scents whenever they wanted, and the inside would slowly release the scent onto the cards with extended use.

Scratch n sniff bacon deck seals are what we settled on, but they are prohibitively expensive ($2000+)...they are definitely a stretch goal but at the moment I'm not sure we'll reach that far.

A slightly lesser expensive option would be to get bacon scented stickers printed and then apply them to the outside of the cello wrapping, but that would have to be done by hand, and once the wrapping is removed, the sticker is as well.

Another option would be to get stickers made and include them with the decks for self-application by backers... would you guys be interested in this option?

A simple, inexpensive scratch-n-sniff sticker in a clear plastic sleeve/envelope can be attached to the outside of the cello with just a dot or two of glue, or perhaps some tape.  Package it with instructions to apply it inside the box.  Every time cards are removed or replaced, the edges will scratch against the sticker and trigger the smell, and it will be concentrated inside the box - even simply opening the deck will probably release enough smell to be noticeable.  I think it's way more elegant than placing the sticker on the outside of the box, plus it's cheaper since the sticker doesn't need custom printing of any kind because it's only being used as a scent-delivery system and not for what's printed on it.  Attaching it with glue or tape will be the hard part, but that's just simple manual labor.

It's official: Bacon Playing Cards will be available in November.

The deck is on the USPCC finishing schedule for next week and will be in my hands by mid-November. Available for purchase expected date is around Nov 15th and these will be limited to 1000 decks. I was fortunate to order this deck during the brief window when USPCC was offering 1000 deck minimums. Orders will be delivered in time for the holidays so you can include bacon decks on your gift list, if you'd like :)

500 decks will be made available in advance to people on the priority invite list. You can sign up here: http://www.baconcards.com
The remaining 500 decks will be available on the vandacards.com website shortly thereafter to the general public.

Thanks,
David

Yes, how much for one of your finest bacon decks?

Is USPCC no longer offering 1000 deck quantities?

Hey David,

Please let us know more details, I'm sure there will be quite a few to know the cost before signing up as well.

Is USPCC no longer offering 1000 deck quantities?

That is correct.  In all likelihood, they realized that it wasn't very cost-effective for them in terms of man-hours and profit potential, even with the increased per-deck cost.  They were for a long time hesitant to go from 5,000 to 2,500 as a minimum print run size.

I remember seeing this deck before...There we go...

I'm going to check them out and start combining topics.  Simply put, this isn't the first go-around for this deck, but it looks like this time it's being privately funded instead of crowdfunded.
