Introducing the Fanangled Deck (KS)

We've re-designed everything from the suits to the seal that closes the deck.

Once we had this all locked up, we carried the design thru to shirts and a poster.

We've done a lot of research and have carefully calculated our printing cost, shipping, and time needed to complete this project.

All the cards will be printed by the U.S. Playing Card Co.

So, they named the deck after a misspelling of the word "finagle"?

Putting that (and the giant "F" on the card back) aside, this deck is deadly dull.  It's like they stripped away practically every element about a deck that made it fun to play with using bleach and paint thinner.  It's minimal, sure - but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

I hope they realize if they sell more than 2500 decks, that you do not need to print another 2500. If your reading this- you can order 2600-3000-3500 etc.

The goal is laughable.  How is it people can do similar projects for half as much?  And that idea that if they need ONE extra deck, they need a new print run.  Twice as laughable.

Even if I loved this deck, I'd have serious reservations about backing it.  And I don't love it.

Anyone quoting from the Urban Dictionary is probably not someone I'd want to buy anything from, however that word doesn't even exist there.  My thought was that he was creating a pun between Fan, angle and finagle and did it poorly. 
Also, if he sold 2,501 decks at $15 a pop he'd have $37K which is more than enough to pop for the extra decks even if he did need another 2,500 which we know he doesn't.

Sounds to me like this guy does his homework like most high school kids.  iPhone, Twitter and the Internet, rather than emailing or picking up a phone and asking questions.  The folks at USPCC are fast, friendly and extremely helpful.  At least that's been my experience.  And they don't mind newbees.  (Again, my own experience).

Magic_O: people give their projects names to stand out and they don't always match the title of the deck.  Think of it as a marketing tactic.  And anyone who says their deck is made by Bicycle might as well say their cereal is made by Froot Loops or that their car is made by Corvette - it's a brand name, not a company name.  Now, saying "made by the makers of BICYCLE® playing cards" makes infinitely more sense.

It was actually a Bee pun, but yes you are correct in your spelling of newbies.  The joke about USPC making it had to do with the comments on the KS project itself where the creator didn't identify who was making it except way down in the body of the page.  I recommended that he add it to the areas that could be searched as most people won't read the details.

If it is a marketing tactic, it's a heavily underused one - I never see it used anywhere else but on KS and the occasional magic shop.  Even when USPC introduces a new product of some kind, they say it's "from the makers of Bicycle and Bee" or words to that effect, introducing it as the product from the makers of a similar, popular product rather than being made BY the popular product.  Because products don't generally MAKE anything without some human intervention...  Except if they come from the Cyberdyne plant, of course...

The price drop to 12 dollars and the back design change sold me.

I actually REALLY like this deck's style, admittedly.

The planning behind the deck is still a bit shoddy, but I hope that the plan will solidify in the updates and comments.

It sounds to me like he's listening to a lot of backer feedback.  Dropping the price should help - his whole project was a little out of whack in terms of costs and his goal.  But the question is "Will it be enough to put him over the top on his goal or is it too little, too late?"

So from $15 to $12 for 1 deck on the first project down to $9 on this one? ? ? ?  and a $24,360 goal to $6,695-Woooooow!

What's different from the first go-around?
•The prices have dropped
•The suits and ranks have been enlarged
•The front of each card now has a  smaller margin – the content fills the card more
•The numbers are a bit heavier
•The cards will be printed on Bicycle-grade stock

I'm not seeing one either.

Kinda weird that he states a whole bunch of things he updated, but the images look the same. Th only explanation I can come up with is that he changed the images from the original to a newer version during the first go round, but since the project flopped and he felt that it was because the change came too late in the project, he'd relaunch with the updated design from the first go.

Bit complicated, but there you go.

Faukx, go into it with both eyes open.  It's EXTREMELY difficult to deliver even a minimum print run to backers on that tight of a budget.  I've seen project creators slash their budgets in order to reach their goal and get the cash, only to end up leaving out some important expense they overlooked.  He's seriously cutting past the bone into the marrow on this.

And yes, I see zero difference in the images - I nearly called them photos.  Not a single detail appears to have changed to my eyes.  Admittedly, my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, but my glasses aren't rose-colored, either.  One really good possible reason - he edited the files and dumped them into the same image site with the same names, meaning he changed the images on the original project in the process.

BTW: stretch goal, $7,800 - a "dealer coin".  What the hell is a dealer coin?  I've heard of a dealer button, I've heard of a coin, I've even heard of a card guard - but dealer coins?  Nope.  I'm betting this guy doesn't play poker at the professional level, or even watch it on TV.  Maybe it's like the Ginsu or one of those other gadgets they advertise on late-night TV - "It's a coin, it's a dealer button, it's a card guard, it's a paperweight - and yes, it's SOOOOOO SHINY...it can even core an apple!"

I like the minimalist look to this deck and I especially like the contrasting areas of solid and striped.
But I'll be cautious backing this one, like you guys have pointed out, the homework doesn't seem to have been done particularly well here.

That goal...wow. There are several new KS dcks with really, really low USPPCC goals. Makes me really nervous. They may have good intentions but if the KS succeeds, yet there's not enough for printing AND shipping...wow...

So I was just checking out their interesting looking courts and came across something cool. As everyone knows how the King of Hearts is killing himself on the court cards, it shows the same thing on his deck in a different matter compared to the other Kings. Just thought I would share =D definitely something that caught my attention.
