Mark Hoppus of Blink 182 has a pretty sweet thing started called "Hi My Name Is Mark."   Clothing, art, accessories, etc....and now playing cards.  In one of his email newsletters...this image was attached.

Pretty nice looking cards if you ask me.

Looks cool.  I wonder if it's a Dan & Dave project...

Another Octopus, Yay!!

I understand steamboats but what's with all the nautical & water theme decks? Paper playing cards are the most none water item you can own. Are people really that fascinated with getting their cards wet?

I don't think anyone with nautical themed decks are using them in the water....some folks on UC had the same question though...why nautical and why octopus?  I have no idea but Kraken Rum uses an Octopus in their products (for obvious reasons). A similar Octopus was seen in the Stranger & Stranger Ultimate Deck released by Dan & Dave...S&S designed the packaging for Kraken Rum.

Here's some insight as to why this deck features a nautical theme with an octopus: http://www.himynameismark.com/pages/about

I think it's one of those 'unattainable' things. People become obsessed with things they can't do, and what could be more attractive to alot of collectors and magicians than a deck that looks wet, or give the impression that it could be made wet without being affected.

The same goes with the 'Ignite' deck. "Paper cannot be made wet and burns REALLY well, so let's make decks that are associated with water and fire!" And so, the 'Fathom' and 'Ignite' decks were born!
Who wants to play '52 Card Pickup'?

I don't know about the water, but with the proper application of flash paper, and deck can "burn"...

I was wondering if these would ever see the light of day, have Marks site bookmarked and I take a quick peek now and then. I kind of like them, interested in seeing the courts.

I'm loving what I see so far.

This might be a chance for D&D to pull themselves out of their designing slump.

I really like the fathoms, this looks to be a more traditional version.  As for D&D, I was very happy with the handling of the Bruce Lee's (though upset they're one ways), but I haven't seen a release from them I've liked in a while.  They noted in a coffee session that they have a replacement to S&M coming...at some point...we'll have to see what that brings.
Starting to get better...have to stay dedicated...can't lose any more cards in the middle of a trick.  Literally, completely lost a card.

I can see it now...  Ladies and gentlemen, I proudly present...  MIRRORS AND SMOKE!   :))

Or perhaps they're making a new Fulton deck and decided to take one of my suggestions...

Just on principle, I haven't bought any nautical or water decks since my submarine was repossessed.

Too bad Dan & Dave are too cheap to let non-Anericans get memberships! I guess they don't want our money!

What was the previous DOTM?

I'm not enthusiastic about the HMNIM cards. After the glut of cthulu decks, I'm kinda tentacled out....
There are no 3's in rousselle. There are, however, two s's, two l's, two e's (but not in a row), an r, an o, and a u.

kd, can you take some pics if you are opening the deck? If not, some more pictures of the tuck would be great too!

I don't open the majority of my decks but here are some pics of the tuck.  Also the anchors on the back and everything on the front is embossed.  I'm not sure how it looks in the picture but the seal is gold.  Long side of the tuck is repeated thus only pictured once.  Hope that helps.

Looks like an awesome deck, I haven't bought anything from D$D in a long time.  This will probably break the streak.

Just think what they would have to charge for shipping!  Probably more than the membership cost for the decks.  In this one case (and only this one) I understand where D$D are coming from.
