Scott Carey over at TuckCase.com ran an exclusive yesterday, not only showing off the finished design to the packaging, but also revealing the official name for the cards!

There's nothing I can say as eloquently as Scott's write-up, so I'll just point you to the aricle (http://bit.ly/17J9EwX).

I am so very excited for this and it's taking shape a lot faster than I though it would. Will be launching the Kickstart Campaign early October!

Stay Tuned!!

A really nice concept behind those court cards - looking forward to seeing this one. Good luck with your project Paul.

They look like a lovely art deck.

I noticed something odd on the tuck box.  USPC states on the back that "Foto Grafis" are the Latin words for "Light" and "Control".  According to Google translate, however, "Light Control" translates to Latin as "Lux Imperium".  It kicks out no Latin meaning for foto grafis, though it does recognize that "foto" is Italian for "photo".

Still, very attractive deck.

Thanks for the kind words, Don . . . the term "foto grafis" has been batted around in Photography circles since before my time. Some say it's Latin . . . other say Greek. Some translate it as Controlling Light. Other's say it means to Paint with Light - both are beautiful and apt translation . . . The first time I heard the term, it was during a work shop with one of my favorite shooters, Joe McNally - who has shot for NatGeo and Life Magazine. I am going to back his Etymology of the word - as he's a much better  shooter than I . . .  :) . . . sure hope the foggy origins of the name doesn't distract from the rest of the deck . . .

Beautiful deck PM, just the type of set that got me into this mess, lol. Can't wait to see it on KS!

In reply to Don, "Foto" is a shortened/slang version of "Fotgrafia" which is the Italian word for Photograph, much like we use the word Photo in English instead of the full Photograph, I have seen the following stated in photography books  "Photography comes from the two latin words foto – which means light and grafis which means control"

...and to add to the confusion, lol
" Many words in the English language come to us from Latin or Ancient Greek. "Photo" is derived from Greek - the Greek word "phos" means "light." The word "graph" also comes from a Greek word meaning "to draw." A Photograph is therefore a drawing made with light. We often shortern the word "photograph" to "photo." The latin word for "light" is "lux."

Interesting mystery to say the least, but in no means does that take away from anything I've seen.

I'm inclined to believe what Sparkz said about it being Greek.  It seems to make the most sense.

In an age when practically no one opens a book, let alone a language-translation dictionary, the "foggy origins" won't be an issue.  :))  They'll be more interested in the awesome imagery.

So... 2 ballet slippers, 4 legs on a chair, is there a third eye on the doll that we can't see?  Or am I searching for correlations that don't exist?  Either way looks very promising!

The images aren't coming out right for me - are they CMYK?  I heard that they have to be "processed" a certain way into RGB or this negative-like image results.

The images weren't showing up at all earlier when I was at work (11ish Central), but once I got home they seem to be fine.

Kane, you should create another topic dedicated to your active Kickstarter project in the Playing Card Plethora section. That section is more active on this forum. Good luck. Interesting project. I hope I'll like all photos.
