Saw this posted on Big Blinds Facebook page. Looking good. I like the Venetian and trippy aspect to this design. Definitely something I want to see more of.

Currently there is no release date.

I posted about this on my blog as well.

That's most definitely an awesome deck.

But... it looks insanely similar to the Fantastique's style. Not that I'm complaining. They're my all time favorite cards.

The checker design and "bird-thing" (not sure what it is properly called :)) ) are definitely reminiscent of the Fantastique deck. Hoping the deck contained within the tuck is a new and different design though! Can't say much more than that seeing only the tuck though.

Although I might not pick up this deck, I do like it very much, as BBM decided to step back from skulls and go with an alternative approach.

I've seen this design once before, maybe a year or nearly two ago, right here on this board.  There were three very similar deck backs and BBM was asking (probably on FB) which one people liked best.  I'd heard very little about them since, so I guessed they'd simply dropped the idea.  Guess I was wrong.  Wish I could find the old post that had the images, either here or on FB...

The bird thing is a plague doctor. (or at least that's what it looks like)

Plague doctor hm? I guess you learn something knew everyday.  :D Well either way, seems to be the mascot of this deck. Look forward to seeing more!

It kind of goes with the name of the deck, really - the use of the plague doctor image.  I did a little Wikipedia reading on it and it's actually quite an interesting subject.  Since in times of plague it was believed that "bad air" was the cause of the illness, the "beak" mask was used as a sort of primitive gas mask, with air holes at the bottom and straw mixed with aromatic spices, flowers, vinegar sponges, etc. were stuffed into the middle to act as a primitive (and entirely ineffective) filtration device.  The air may have smelled better (or more vinegary) but it did nothing to keep the germs away - something people of the era didn't know existed.  Medical doctors were often NOT used as plague doctors - the attrition rate of plague doctors was EXTREMELY high, and people with absolutely no medical training were often hired to take the position, lured by payments several times that of what a regular physician would earn.  Furthermore, they were hired by the local governments and thus ministered to the wealthy as well as the poor.  That stick they carried was not so much used to beat away plague-infected people as it was for examinations and the removal of a patient's or corpse's clothing - supposedly they could even detect a pulse using one.

Oh, hell - there's a lot more, just go look it up!  I'm too tired to type it all here.

I'm hoping the face imagery is equally as suited to the title.

Pesta as a joker would be interesting.

On a side note - I was in Hong Kong during SARS and H5N1, North America during swine flu, and there's ongoing talk about a H7N9 outbreak.

New pics have surfaced.

I must say, I'm really disappointed. The whole optical illusion thing has been done with the Ogma deck, and was blown out of the water by the Royal Optik deck. They have such a cool theme, and so many possibilities. It seems like they just stopped trying after the box art and the AOS/Jokers. Why not use the characters they had in the first drafts as courts? Why not incorporate more badass plague doctors or twisted trees, or flying fish? Kind of a let down.

I doubt he can sue - most of the photos he posts are from other people who hold the rights.  This either came from USPC or from Big Blind Media, most likely.

The Karnival series had some really huge custom jobs starting with their sixth deck, Karnival Dead Eyes.  Now, it looks like the pendulum is swinging the other direction, starting roughly with the Karnival Hornets and continuing more strongly since the Karnival Earthtone9 deck.

I would use the same reasoning that Theory11 or Zenneth Kok would use for making decks with minimally-customized faces.  These people are magicians and cardists, first and foremost.  Magicians don't necessarily exclude uncommon decks from their arsenal, but they do lean more towards the familiar - faces that people will recognize from the games they play at home.  BBM is a magic company, first and foremost.  This deck is just a little juiced in terms of appearance, enough to make cardistry moves become mind-blowing, and it's plain enough that if a magician took this deck out and showed it to someone who's never seen a custom deck before, they'd recognize the faces and courts immediately and be comfortable enough with them.

I love custom decks.  Collectors LURVE full-custom decks.  But they aren't suited to every application.

I agree that the card designs seem like a bit of a let down when compared tot he box design, but i still don't mind the deck.
I agree that the ogma deck did awesomely with the optical illusion, and I haven't seen the royal optik deck yet but I'm really looking forward to seeing it in person early next year (if the royal optik deck is better than ogma I think I'm in love already).
