The designer is Adam Dopps the founder of Drink Deal Daily.
Being printed by the USPCC.
Its funding target is $12k with 18 days to go. As of writing this, the amount is at $1,352.

The following information is taken from the KS page:-

"The Bars of Phoenix Fantasy Playing Cards is a deck 52 of your Favorite Bars Taverns Pubs and Breweries in Phoenix represented on Custom Made set of collectible Playing Cards. It is a 52 card guide to Drinking in Phoenix."

"The Bars of Phoenix is an entirely custom deck of limited edition playing cards featuring the cities most popular watering holes. The normal suits, Hearts, Spades, Clubs and Diamonds are being replaced by a more bar friendly set of icons (suits), Beer, Wine, Cocktail and Rocks."

The artwork is ok, looks a lot like a souvenir deck though. Just a bit more arty.

  • Ugh, I wish I had money for THAT deck!
The art is definitely done well. I've just never been to any of the bars in Phoenix so this deck is kinda lost on me. Not a bad deck on it's own though. One you'd probably see in a souvenir shop.

I don't see this getting funded. No pictures of the back, or tuck. Only a picture of the Ace of Martini. Not a very well constructed project. Kinda lazy
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

Personally hate the idea.

Who, outside if the local area, would be interested in this?

I'm thinking of one-upping them. I'll do a 52 card deck of the 52 most popular British pub names. At least that's of some use.

Who remembers the Tacoma deck?  Despite being focused very narrowly on Tacoma, Washington, including rewards that had to be retrieved in person in Tacoma, it broke its goal and did very well.

Having said that, this deck is of practically no interested to anyone other than drinkers in Phoenix, Arizona or collectors who MUST.  HAVE.  EVERY.  DECK!!!  If he branded it with the Bicycle name, he'd be certain to snag a few more of those in the mix.

I'm thinking of one-upping them. I'll do a 52 card deck of the 52 most popular British pub names. At least that's of some use.

After a quick search, I found a list of UK pub names organised by popularity, i.e. how many of each there were, as reported in April 2011.

Here's the list, with how many of each next to the name:

You left out two for the jokers...

I'm sure if you poked around DeviantArt or Behance (and had the cash) you could hire an artist for this, but it would cost a pretty penny or two for this much work.

Do you think they'd be popular, even amongst people from outside the UK?

I dunno what the US/Canadian attitude towards British-themed things are.

Is it  8) or  >:( ?

I think you'd find enough Anglophiles in both countries to make it of at least some interest on this side of the pond.  But without doubt, the lion's share of the interest would be in the UK.  And, as everyone knows, slap the Bicycle brand on this and your sales automatically get a boost from all the obsessives that must have every Bicycle deck ever made.

Fair point.

Now I just need an artist that is willing to work for their weight in ramen noodles.  ;)

No, no, no...  It's a British-themed deck.  They have to work for their weight in curries...

Curries are cheaper.  Now, if no one minds, let's try to steer our way back to the topic at hand...

Like a phoenix, rising from the ashes?

I'm sticking with 'Thanks, but a little too narrow an audience.' I'm sure it will be a hit with anyone living in Phoenix, including the bar owners of those featured in the deck, as well as anyone thinking of visiting, but I feel that they have restricted themselves a little too much, unless they intend to make it the first in a LOOOOOOOOOOONG series of decks, highlighting the more popular drinking holes around different cities.

Doable, but a significant pain-in-the-ass, as people would be insisting that they do their cities next.

It looks like a local project with little appeal outside of the local community.  Having said that, it could be quite successful.  As far as people insisting on doing their own cities next - they're welcome to do so, but I doubt these folks will be a part of it!
