Either way, I doubt he copied off of you. He put way to much work into this to just copy off of you.

Of course not, but the similarity is there I think. I'd pick up the deck regardless if it was more customized (I share Russell's point of view in that regard) and if I knew for sure the back design would be fixed.

Standard court cards? Too bad, I liked the idea of this deck, but I find it harder and harder to spend my limited money on cards that aren't customized :(

Hey Guys,
I'd glad to see all the feedback about this deck. I'm Sean and the designer behind the Galvanic cards. I appreciate everyone's feedback. Right now I'm typing up my Kickstarter page which should be ready to launch by tomorrow night. I waned to break away for a bit and explain things in regards to the designs and the deck themselves.

The Designs:
The complex back design for this playing card deck is the core or main battery source that gives the Galvanics life. What exactly are Galvanics you wonder? Human engineered robotic intelligence, create to serve one purpose: To learn the mistakes we're made after the death of our race. Our vision was that they could evolve into something we could have never imagined during our lifetime. But until now...we were uncertain of the powers they possessed...

This deck not only focuses on the 3d elements but its main purpose is the story thats brings these designs to life. You see, I created the joker character when I was in college back in 2009. Since the first day I created him I had this wild imagination and story to separate him from other "robots".

At the time I wanted to create a short film out of him based on that storyline but it turned out to be way too much work for just one guy. Any of you animation buffs out there will know this. It usually takes months for only a 30 second scene...crazy I know.

However, I didn't simply want to toss everything away. I turned to playing cards instead since I am an avid collector and playing card buff. If funding succeeds, this deck will be known as the "hero" deck and a villain deck to follow up will be in the works.

So no the designs were not copied from other decks just to get a buck. This deck breaks ground because of its fundamental story, something that gives the designs itself life.

And to clear up about the court cards. As of right now (right now meaning tonight..) the court cards will be standard. However custom court cards are in the works. It is not cheap to add these right away so I am waiting for a quote from uspcc. If everything feels right then by all means they will be added.

Any additional questions, feel free to respond to this since I will be checking back frequently. Or you can even toss me a PM.

Thanks you to everyone again,
Sean Whelan

After explaining my vision for this deck, I hope the story alone is a key seller. It has been a dream of mine for years to have my own playing card deck and it took a very long time to get here. Most takes you see only have a theme to the designs...not a story behind them.

I will have different tiers upon launch so it will give you guys a clear example of what you get if the goal is met and if funding exceeds it. You will also see the tuck box as well as the joker reveal which its very unique to the design.

Since I got a lot of feedback on this forums, I will give you guys an early surprise:
If the goal is met, not only will the cards be produced but a theatrical trailer for the cards will be made. yes a trailer, this will include a quick synopsis of the story as well as visual effects and animation. The joker will be brought to life and will visually give you guys a better understanding of who the Galvanics are. The trailer will be entirety be done by me. This includs all 3d elements, animation, texturing, editing and music : P

Welcome, it's always nice to see the creators talking about their stuff!

I know making custom faces takes a while, but wow, it would be worth it on this deck! I would love to pledge for one if it did!

Sean! Welcome to The Discourse. Take our advice and spend the extra couple months finishing the custom court cards. I guarantee that your deck of cards will jump from "Meh, maybe worth it." to a definite must have. On top of that, if you fix up that back design, I can see myself in for a few cards. I love 3D art and science fiction, and it's great to see another deck taking to one of the most under-utilized themes in playing cards.

I just finished typing up the Kickstarter page and took everyones feedback into account. I have setup different tiers in which each one will add features to the deck (metallic ink, court cards, tuck embossing etc etc).

I myself wish to see custom court cards on these designs as well so its up to everyone to reach that goal. The standard tier (goal) will have regular issued court cards. However, if the second tier ($20,000) is reached then court cards will be added o the deck! I'll say that again for everyone...if that second tier is reach (which is very reasonable in this case) custom court cards will be added!

I think it should start off with custom court cards and have the original goal high enough so we can get them.

No deck is "Unlimited", it simply is how many decks will be printed and once they sell out, if they want to print them again. In this case, given that it is a kickstarter based deck, there would most likely be a run of 5000 ( lowest amount USPCC allows for a run ).

Here is  a quote by CBJ that explains limited/unlimited better

Limited..rare.. when these words are thrown out for almost every deck... it really starts to mean nothing.

Is it limited?  Of course, most decks get a 5000 run... not a lot for a population of 7 billion.  But most times there's an easy way to know.  Big companies...Ellusionist, T11, D&D, etc normally have larger print runs.  15,000-20,000 decks.  Smaller release from no-name people = smaller runs.

Will there be reprints? 99.999% won't announce reprints without seeing how the deck is going to sell.

And I think the back design needs some extrawork.
I want to see at least some concept of custom court cards before making my pledge. Actually (after all that card projects on Kickstarter) I think that any designer should complete his work before starting appropriate Kickstarter project.

I've seen the story of Galvanic first hand and its going to be very intriguing to see it develop.  I like the little extra style you added in the corners.  Nice touch

thanks

Yeah, the theme of this deck remind me of vortex, but vortex is more vival.
This is rather a machine.

Yes this theme of the deck does revolve around machinery. However, as mentioned before this deck of playing cards breaks away from the traditional decks on the market today. It is the first deck to develop the designs using 3D elements and has a fundamental storyline as to why the designs were created. This deck was designed for collectors and artist in mind rather then the usual magician most decks strive for.

As a quick update as well...those custom court cards multiple people have wondered, the green light is here. Now I just have to review everything before I personally give the go ahead to add them to the deck. If I do this, the goal will be higher just so everyone knows, as well as the cost per deck. But if this is something everyone would like, I don't see why I wouldn't hit my goal.

(I personally wanted to save this for my second deck in the works. My initial idea was to get my name out there first and then add the custom court cards on the follow up : P)

If this is what everyone wants, then by all means...it will happen.

Post a response so I know!!! : P

Thanks,
Sean Whelan

why put your name out there behind a deck of custom backs when you could have your name behind a totally custom deck? i personally really like the design and theme of the deck and i am excited to see custom faces that are centered around this theme.

custom faces will also help tell the story behind the deck that you have.
have you heard the word???

MY court cards will be the standard Bicycle designs. However, they will be edited and refined to match the theme of the deck.
