Hi Joe,

Thanks for the feedback! And no worries - you aren't being negative. These are really good points/questions.

To get to them, we are intending to print poker-sized cards. And you are totally right about the costs. Sorry for any confusion. We chose 6K as our goal because that's the amount we need to launch the project, in addition to the money we can contribute out of pocket. We really want to produce these decks, so we chose the lowest amount possible. We attend Highland Games and Trade Shows and believe we can recoup our costs there. Obviously, we'd love to smash through the goal and have all expenses covered here (so please tell your friends about the project :)

Thanks for your support!"
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

Another project full of red flags...

The budget is too low for a single USPC-made deck, never mind two.

They've completed, what, ONE face card so far?  They're creating the deck on the fly?  No wonder the deliver date is a half-year after the closing date...

But they do have completed art for the tchochkes...  Nice 20-ounce pint glass...wait a minute, last time I looked, a pint is only sixteen ounces!  Is that like, a "Celtic pint"?  Shipping on those can't be cheap.  This really leaves me scratching my head over how they're going to do this - all of this - on a budget of merely $6,000.

Let the early birds slip away - I'd rather see how this shapes up first, as should anyone with even the least interest in investing.

I'm seeing a new trend with KS projects, and it's not a good one.  People are trying to insure the success of their projects by slashing their budgets.  This leaves them terribly exposed if they simply squeak over the finish line and reach their goal.  It's one thing if you're throwing in some of your own cash as well as your talent and sweat equity when presenting a project, but if you aren't, you're setting yourself up for a disaster.  You'll end up putting in your own cash whether you planned to or not - or simply default on the project and leave people scratching their heads, thinking of ways they can lynch you!  The only way to avoid it is to have a screaming success - but for every screaming success of a project out there, there's maybe twenty or thirty that were either moderately successful or not at all successful.

They do say that they will be supplementing the cost with their own money, which would need to be another $1,500 for the printing, then what, about another $1000-2000 for the packaging and shipping costs.

It's possible, particularly if they are confident of making their money back through sales at the Highland Games and Trade Shows.

I'll be keeping an eye on this project. Looks nice, but I'm still willing to reserve judgement til I see some more material. Just a few courts will be fine to really peak my interest.

Also, due to sheer luck, a funny image:

Too much of a Celtic art fan for me to be cautious on this one - I've got 1 pledged too. Plus I'm a sucker for academics......
