Wow, I backed 4 on that late list.  I do think two of them will ship soon (King of Kings and Venexiana).  Not holding my breath on the other two (Founders and Mustache).  Won't be backing any of David's projects ever again, as most people shouldn't, since he's been late on multiple projects now. Very disappointing to see one person responsible for three of the decks on the list - Alex Willis.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

This is one of the things I really dislike about Kickstarter.  Someone may have all the talent in the world and be very prompt and organized about getting the designs ready and printed.  But they often forget that once those decks arrive, you in essence have to put your entire life on hold to get them out the door swiftly - otherwise, you'll deliver piecemeal over the course of weeks, pissing off your backers and destroying your reputation as a project creator.

For instance, Darren Gendron and the "Seelie" deck.  He talks to us about spending time with his sons, playing video games, having his parents come over to assist with the baby...  All fine and wonderful things which to nothing to negate the fact that he still hasn't finished delivering on the deck and is obligated to do so.  If I used that excuse about being late for work or failing to deliver on a work-related project, I wouldn't remain employed for long.  So why is it acceptable to do that to the people who helped to bring your dream project into reality by backing it?

The answer is "IT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE!"  He should be delivering solutions, not excuses.  I'm willing to wager that only a tiny percentage of his present backers would be willing to back him again for anything because of the treatment he's given them.  He might as well have said "The dog ate my homework."

"But what about the child?", you ask?  Simple - he had to have known his wife was pregnant at some point before the project closed - there are symptoms that appear in the first one or two months, so unless he was totally oblivious, he had to have known he had a baby on the way.  A smart, reasonable person who wants that baby to be a priority in his life would have CANCELED the project, realizing the drain it would put on his personal resources, and relaunched at a time when he had the necessary time to commit.  What he did is more like making a decision to raise a drawbridge before the traffic has finished crossing it!

I didn't intend to single any one person out here, but I've seen similar incidences occur with other deck projects that are running late.  It's irresponsible to commit to a project that you know damn well you aren't going to have the proper amount of time to complete - and it's worse when some of that time is being spent in leisure activities like playing video games!  I'd wager he doesn't let his son play games when he has homework to complete, so why is he letting himself do exactly that?  It's no example to set for a child.  He doesn't have to be an automaton, spending every waking moment doing nothing but shipping packages, but he has to at least make a better effort at showing he's committed to timely delivery and not Mario Party or Gran Turismo...

I see guys talking about how their day job or college classes are interfering with their ability to ship out quickly.  To that, I say, "What the hell were you thinking when you created the project in the first place?  Did you stop to consider the time and effort commitment required?  If these are the things that are getting in the way of the project and you can't find an adequate solution, like taking a vacation week or something, YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN MAKING A PROJECT IN THE FIRST PLACE, PERIOD, END OF STORY."

Good news! Guess you can take Royal Wilderness off the late list

Dec 3rd

We should have some more coming off the list soon, but I does appear Alex Willis did a Founders 3 times.  Wow! I guess don't back another Kickstarter from the same creator unless you get the decks from his first project...

I have yet to receive my 1st KS backed deck, it's not late or anything, but I just started getting into all this. That being said....

...you hit the nail on the head Don and unfortunatly it's not just KS, it's a problem that exists with everyone who only looks at the "Glamour" or "Success" of whatever their venture is and undermines the fact that it actually takes hard work and time beyond the thought/creation proecess. Not to mention I'm sure many look at their supporter/backers as just $$ signs and once it's all said and done, funds collected, product produced and sitting ready for delivery, there isn't any motivation, in there minds, to finish the job. "I'll get to it" is not acceptible.

...certainly not if you want to complete a second project, or a third, etc.

The Discourse New Deck Report
By Rob Wright
Report data compiled 12/15/2013

I have asked Don to find someone to take over the NDR.
Unfortunately, I do not have enough time to properly keep this updated. I may also have to take a short hiatus from the forum due to a personal issue.

I want to thank Don for allowing me to play with this for a few months. It's been a pleasure.

For the next person that takes this over, I say good luck. I'll be happy to help if you have a question.

To everybody else. I hope you have enjoyed my updates. I started with a solid foundation from Don, and tried to make it even better.

Thank you to all.

Hello everyone,
I hope you all had a great thanksgiving, I know I did. I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm very sorry for the delay on the cards. Mpc had a few issues with some of the graphics so I had to do a few minor tweaks for them. I'm waiting on the final ok from them. They have been good with keeping up communication so I know everything will be done very soon. I will post another update as soon as I hear something from them. Thank you all again for being so patient and understanding with all of this. Happy holidays.

This is my first go at this sort of thing, and the delivery date of September was a bit... heroic.
I should have the cards from USPCC in the next week or so, and it should only be a couple
days for me to get everything packaged up and delivered. Hang tight! =)

Update #8
 Nov 19, 2013
Seelie Update
Hey guys, I know there's not been a lot of updates on this project, and I'm sorry about that. I've been really, really busy lately. However, a good chunk of what's keeping me busy has been work on Seelie.

Right now, I'm working as many hours as I can, but also taking the occasional moment to spend time with my two sons and wife. My parents have temporarily moved in with me to help with the duties that crop up with a newborn, as well as sometimes learning to play video games to keep my older son entertained when I disappear into the office to figure out how many envelopes I need to buy and how the Scallywags budget is doing (first answer: ~900, second answer: fine, we'll have everything in our warehouse shortly).

Also, some people have noticed that I do sometimes log into Kickstarter, but don't post an update. This is because a lot of times I'm just tallying up order numbers, or answering messages, or sometimes just glancing at another person's project. And yes, I am currently finishing up two other projects. I wanted to make sure everyone knew that I've cancelled all public appearances until these three projects are 100% done. I'm also not starting any new projects until these are finished. So yes, we're motivated to get this all out the door.

Proofs updates
After setting the cards aside for most of a week and looking at them again, I did notice a few more errors. Nothing that will require any of the cards to be entirely redrawn, but enough that it will take a little bit of time to fix them and then order more proofs.

Final Changes and delays
Sorry gang, this project got delayed much longer than I expected which include a lot of design changes, some of which I'm okay with and some of which I spent a good deal of time and energy pushing back on.  But it's done.  I finally got the final, final copies and agreed to the changes from legal.  So here they are.  I sign the contracts and it's off to printing.

Starting to get better...have to stay dedicated...can't lose any more cards in the middle of a trick.  Literally, completely lost a card.

Crap.  My best source for seeing up to date card decks is out of wack. Want to go down down the rabbit hole of 1/14/13?  http://www.unitedcardists.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=179  and my second best source is..https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/search?utf8=✓&term=playing+cards

if you wanted to embed kickstarter cards like the UC forum http://xenforo.com/community/resources/kickstarter-bbcode-mediasite.2169. They embed as iframes so you wouldn't have to manually update each project as much as it pulls come from kickstarter itself.

You appear to be more knowledgeable than I am on the topic.  The reason we haven't done it yet was, according to what I was told, it leaves the board open to certain types of hacking.  Is this true?

Would YOU be interested in reviving the Report?  We would restart it with yours being the first post, so you may edit it as needed.

One last thing - ran into a small hitch when looking at the site you steered me to.

Technically an iframe could cause problems. An iframe is a window to another url so if someone was to embed  a nefarious site it could be bad. SMF only allows html upload by admins for this reason. However an admin can give individuals it trusts  the right to upload or decide (which might be best here)  the sites it will allow uploads from. You could then add buttons to the post toolbar where basic users could upload a kickstarter project via a kickstarter button, a behance , an indiegogo etc..

As for the link.. my bad, apparently you need to be a registered user to download. The code is just a css and php page which can be taken from kickstarter itself.  I can set up a smf testing board to try out the cards and other ideas if you would like. nateboreiko@gmail.com

We're working on a revamp at the present - but thanks for the info!  I'll see that it gets included in the new version.

Evidently you do not know how to read. If you look at the last time I updated it, I said I was not going to be able to continue with it. Don has enough going on with the transition of ownership, and taking care of being the Admin.

I'm sorry if I haven't been able to keep this up to your standards, but the truth of it is. I had to leave my family and home, and move back in with my Mother. I'm trying to help her be as comfortable as possible, as I watch her dying of cancer.
I've got a suggestion for you. Instead of complaining. Step up to the plate and take it over, or shut the fuck up!

You and victor make a great pair. You two should start a card forum together.

While it is nice to have all your information in one place, and we are working on reviving this thread, our membership does a pretty good job of keeping everyone informed of new releases and their status.

But that's a great idea sprouts, here are a few more links I would recommend if your looking for Kickstarter Information  ::)

Well thats bloody harsh, I dont see the poor bloke lashing out at you. The situation might be bad at home, but no need to vent your anger at someone simply asking if there are any updates.

OK, let's chalk this up to it being a sensitive situation and just move on.

The New Deck Report is being worked on and in time will see the light of day once more. As I mentioned earlier, there is no lack of information within the Discourse forum or on the web for the time being.

What's developing at the moment is that we have an active list of 2014 releases with new decks added regularly and we're revamping the current design on Kickstarter project tracking to be something of a hybrid between what's provided by UC and what we provided in the past.  We ask for patience in this - and if you're eager to step up to the plate because you want it done quicker, I'll remind you that when I started tracking KS projects, I wasn't even an administrator, just a user like the rest of you guys, so feel free to create something of your own if you're not patient!

And so there's no misunderstandings, there's not a drop of malice or anger in my statement.  It's a long-winded way of saying "put up or shut up".  The New Deck Report will live on as two separate topics with new titles, that's all.

Rob, I'm very sorry for the situation you're in and can understand why you lashed out.  I'm certain you didn't want to come across as harshly as you did.  Your mother's in the best possible care with you I'm sure and will pass peacefully thanks to your efforts and support.  Send her my best wishes and those of the Discourse.

Please remove this post if it's inappropriate, as I'm not trying to drive traffic away from my favorite card forum, but if all someone if looking for is a simple list of KS card projects, I have that at my site. It's not the same detail that is presented here.
Check out every Kickstarter Deck project - current & archived along with some great Deck designer/artist interviews:

Evidently, Don did not do a Admin mod and we can say the word "Fuck" around here.  I know what your going through Rob.  I lost my father last March.  He had bone cancer.  Evidently, it's the worst kind of pain.  His chemotherapy compromised his immune system and got pneumonia.  Before we put he on a ventilator and then he died 3 days later, he said he felt like he was slowly drowning.  Evidently, this tread will not be updated in the near future and I'm ok with that.  Thank-you for letting me know.  There are other sources which jwats01 has pointed out, but by saying "shut the fuck up!"  Well....
