Atlantis playing cards?

I recently found a deck known as the Atlantic playing cards. They appear to be a vintage deck and for what the seller wants, they had better handle pretty well. Don, now would be an excellent time to prove to us all why you're the supreme authority on cards...
(as an unrelated side-note, I'm also looking into some archduke eagle backs and some Offason Anglos. Anyone have any experience in this regard? I'm looking for handling features here).

Anglos are available from a number of dealers, and are easier to get in Europe than the US for obvious reasons.

Last time I looked, pokerstud52 on eBay was still selling Archduke Eaglebacks.

Now, I need a little clarification - you mentioned Atlantis in the title, but you mentioned Atlantic in the body text of your post.  Which is it, and where's the link to this deck?  Oh, and don't count on super happy fun time handling from most vintage decks - relatively few could actually outperform a modern custom deck with Magic Finish...

Ah, my bad. Atlantis. And it's being sold on dealing devils dealing deuces as are the archdukes and anglos.
Also picking up some V1 Arrco Tahoes from them. Expensive, but what the hell. I just got a killer new job and this can be a reward to myself.

Oh, please tell me you didn't buy your cards from DD.  He used to log in here semi-regularly until he got caught out making fake versions of limited edition decks.  He'd wrap them in foil, slap his own stickers on them and jack the price up.  He got nailed when he made a foil-wrapped Ace Fulton's deck with a clear-plastic Ace Fulton's sticker on it - Dan and Dave flat-out stated it wasn't a version of the deck they created.  He vanished from this board after that, with many of the members screaming bloody murder over the crap he was trying to pull.  He also yanked them from his web store.  His "limited edition" foil-wrapped Arrcos have been in stock for months and months, still not sold out - he's just waiting for people who don't know him better to buy up what's left.

The Atlantis is an out-of-print Cartamundi deck from the early 2000s.  The US Trademark Office lists their trademark for the deck as "Canceled - Section 8".  I can't speak for the quality of it, though I've heard it's supposed to be a premium deck.  It is, though, a little too young to be a vintage deck.  My own experience with Cartamundi decks is that they can produce some really, REALLY awful decks, but maybe that's just because I didn't get their best work.

If you check out the Bond Agency (cards4magic.co.uk), they're selling simple gaffed versions of the deck (double backers, blank facers, double facers), but not the basic deck itself.

Thanks for the warning. Fortunately, didn't buy yet. I too have handled a couple cartamundi decks only to want to burn them. Granted, all I have held are the rite-aid brand cards (aka the reason I prefer to go to Walgreen's whenever possible). His prices on anglos and archdukes look good though. That is, assuming he isn't a douchebag about his sales techniques... If he tries that on me, he's going to regret it.

There are other, more trustworthy dealers you can go to.  Check out the Retailer Coupon Codes sticky topic at the top of the PCP and perhaps you can save a few bucks in the process.  He still has outrageously expensive crap on his site like those foil-wrapped Arrcos (which HE wrapped, not the factory) and those "rare" Arrco Studs for $299.99 a pack - I know the story behind those decks, and no, they're not exactly everyday Studs, but he still has them price WAY out of proportion with their value and his story about the decks' origins is completely unverified.  He's no longer advertising insanely expensive Golden Nuggets, but that may be because some poor fool paid the price and bought them.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about when you mention the Cartamundi Rite-Aid decks - they're AWFUL and make 99-cent-store decks look like Jerry's Nuggets in comparison.  I think they're actually printed on paperboard instead of pasteboard - y'know, the cheap cardboard they make cereal boxes out of?  The kicker is that in my area, they charge about as much for those steaming piles of printing press turds as they do for Bicycles.  Suffice it to say I never set foot in Rite-Aid these days.
