It looks like a new deck is on the way from Ellusionist.

In their new Xmas promotion, one of the prizes is a "rare uncut sheet of our latest retro Playing Cards"

The whole prize list looks pretty sweet, really.  But that deck - it's a bit of a departure for them.  I'd swear I've seen similar decks on Kickstarter - could they have hired a KS deck designer?

I think that the design is not what people are used to see form Ellusionist, at least I'm not.. it's not even my style or design, but I'll wait to see more pictures of the cards :)

But maaaaan, Ellusionist got some sweet stuff to offer for their Christmas prizes! I would love to win prize number four! 144 decks from Ellusionist, yes please! :D

Wow, that's a great Holiday incentive program from Ellusionist. That deck seems to have a "Gatsby" look to it.

I agree. Too bad none of them depict Gatsby himself. I still remember last year in year 12 how intense we anal-ysed (pun intended) all of the themes and motifs etc etc. Great book, one of my favourites.

Hmm now that i think of it, a deck based on the roaring 1940s with old money/new money (Kings), Poor people who fucked up the american dream (Jacks) and the various women (Queens), loosely based on The Great Gatsby, would be a very very interesting deck. Just imagine Daisy as the Queen of Hearts.. Gatsby as the suicide King (Motifs towards his unrequited love etc), Tom as the King of Spades (old money, the winner in the end) , Owl eyes with his stunning greenish glowing glasses as one of the Jokers... Man that could actually be a stunning stunning deck..

Actually, i feel quite impulsive tonight.. Also did just finish my exams for the year so i have a 3month break. Hmm maybe i could attempt to take on a experimental project like this! Thoughts thoughts..

PS: Oh wow thanks for changing my name again ALEXANDER. xoxo

Um, wasn't it the Roaring '20s, as in 1920s?  The '40s were a bit different in nature...  I recall Gatsby as being set in the '20s - or at least it looked like it due to all the Art Deco all over the place in the movie...  (I never read the book.)

They seem to be using stuff from other designers with their magic and what not, they may have bought some uncuts from a kickstarter project.
Do you guys even read this? Like I could have the meaning of life here and I doubt you would know it.

The indices look pretty neat. I'm just wanting to see if all of the courts will be the same as those pictured or all unique.
Also, does anyone know why it's called the Pressers?

Now THAT is not likely.  I was thinking more along the lines of them hiring a designer that previously made a KS deck.

Another way of saying "Squeezers", probably.  I wouldn't be surprised to learn there was a classic deck of the same name.  It's all about the indices...  :))  And I haven't seen a single E deck that had identical courts - no reason to think this would break the tradition.

Is this deck dedicated to chronic alcoholics?  :)

Cuuuuuute...  :))

Could be as simple as they're out of stock.  An uncut sheet of an unpublished deck would be rather popular.

Out of stock? I'm not sure if they were ever for sale. Even so, it would be illogical for E to not hold onto a few for the holiday contest, no?

Is it me or is that prize tier thing more confusing than my Kickstarter Pledge tiers?

We don't know when the deck is introduced if it will be a standard release or a limited edition.  It's not impossible to think that either way, they only had X amount of the sheets on hand, and demand was greater than X by a wide enough margin that they were given out pretty quickly.

Is it me or is that prize tier thing more confusing than my Kickstarter Pledge tiers?

It's actually easy.  For each tier you cross, you get an item from that tier of your choice, plus one item from each of the lower tiers.  They used to do these tiers as a regular thing, always in place, until they replaced it with this crazy points system which they never really got off the ground in terms of gifts - though they do work for discounts.  Now tiers are reserved for the holidays, it would seem.

The Ace of Spade of the Presser deck looks really cool in colour. The whole deck is an interesting direction for Ellusionist. I think my only small gripe is that I wish for the tuckbox, they didn't add in the "weather look" to it. I honestly don't think it's needed. They could have gone with an off-white yellow for the tuckbox colour instead and it still would have looked really great. But they've got a beautiful colour palette on this deck. I'm curious to as when Ellusionist will release this. I'm wondering if it's end of this year or start of next year.

edit: thought I'd add in the photos of the deck taken from Ellusionist's Facebook page:

Then I'm guessing they'll be out soon for the general public. I've got a feeling that the Cyber Monday server crashes and the extended sale delayed the Pressers coming out sooner.

They could have even been the final deal of the Facebook event. There was one left that they didn't announce. But I'd be surprised if they were saving a brand new deck release for it. But maybe.

No, it's a new deck release.  And it will be available to the public 24 hours after the Black Club gets a crack at it.  That's the usual modus operandi.

HOLY CRAP!  Did you see this?

| Pressers, from E.P.C.CO, Madison Ave, NY, NY. |

That's Bill Kalush's company!  It really looks like he's been hustling to give USPC a run for their custom-deck money!  (Well, he usually says his decks are from Expert Playing Card Company, West 30th St., NYC, but since it was a "Mad Men" themed deck, I could see why they'd list Madison Avenue....

Though, when I look at it more rationally, it could be interpreted as the Ellusionist Playing Card Company...  :(
