This seemed to take off on another forum (that shall remain nameless). Thought I'd give it a shot here.
I apologize if there's already something similar here.
----------------------------------------------------------------

A White Whale - http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=white+whale

I thought it would be cool for everyone to post that one deck of cards they just can't seem to find.
...that one deck that consumes their dreams, and every waking moment.  :o (or not quite that)  ::)

You might be surprised what's sitting in a closet somewhere.
By letting the community know what you've been searching for, dreams could come true! 8)

We all understand this can change over time.
But until you find what you're after or lose interest, let's keep it to one White Whale per member.
It is a singular term.  ;)

My current quest, is for:
The Doctor Who - Gallifrey One Deck

Your turn. Aaaand...GO!  :D

I love the topic idea!  But for me, I don't really have any white whales.  I have what I have, I get what I get, and I don't sweat over what can't be had.  But I'm pretty Zen like that, so...  :))

Now if it was a "white elephant" list...THAT would be a very different story!

Sharpie, I'm excited that you rolled this topic over here.  I found it riveting on UC.  I was thinking about starting it myself.

The one damn deck I can't seem to get my hands on is the DMC sharks.  I have a handful of decks I'm in search of but that one just seems to elude me.

Now was that DMC's first deck or the second?  I was pretty fond of them when I saw them both, but they're pretty much distributed almost exclusively there rather than here.

The original Arrco Tahoes, sealed of course.

Or maybe the original Silver Slippers.

Those two have eluded me for over three years.

Hey KD, I'm sure you already know about this, but the Sharks are still available on their site at £65: http://sovereignplayingcards.com/decks/sharks/

Now what about those other two decks I've seen?  One was a deck commemorating the old factory, the other the new one - they looked like a two-deck set.

Yup I know they're there, it just seems a little overpriced.  I'm going to keep working on getting them cheaper.  Thanks though

The Doctor Who cards are from the 21st Gallifrey One convention.

Personally I'm looking for a Monte Carlo Loews Bee deck (circa '79)

That 125th set is awesome.  I'm pretty sure the box they come in is made with floor boards from the Cincy plant.  Pretty sweet.   If anyone has it they can verify.  If anyone has an extra they can PM me.   ;)

In addition to the previously posted Doctor Who / Gallifrey One deck, my white whale is the Original Vietnam War Bicycle Secret Weapons deck.  I've only come across them once or twice and both times I didn't have the funds on me.
-El Guapo

ISO - Vietnam vintage Bicycle Secret Weapon Aces of Spades deck.

If I remember right there is the one from world war 2 (I believe that one) vietnam, and then the recent reprints.

Also if anyone knows where I can those Dr. who/Gallifrey deck I have a friend who would die if I got them for her, and her birthday is soon so please let me know.
Do you guys even read this? Like I could have the meaning of life here and I doubt you would know it.

Nope.  Vietnam was the original Secret Weapon Deck.  Vietnam>Desert Shield>Reprints.  You may be thinking of the original Escape Map Deck.  That was from WW II.

Nope.  Vietnam was the original Secret Weapon Deck.  Vietnam>Desert Shield>Reprints.  You may be thinking of the original Escape Map Deck.  That was from WW II.

Beat me to the punch.  The WW2 decks were ordinary-looking Bike decks of the day (they had to pass inspection by the German troops before being given to the American/Allied POWs) but when dipped in water, the glue would melt and they could be peeled apart to reveal escape maps hidden on the inside of the paper layers.

The Secret Weapon decks were thought to be useful because the Viet Cong were superstitious about both the Ace of Spades and the Lady Liberty figure on it, while the reality was it was a morale booster for the Americans - the Viet Cong weren't afraid of the cards, really, no more so than anyone is afraid of "the death card".  The reprints for Desert Shield were kind of useless for a number of reasons, not the least of which being that there wasn't even a perceived superstition about them among Libyan forces and that the war was terribly short.

USPC did create a reproduction of the original Vietnam Secret Weapon deck - or they're in the process of releasing it, I'm not sure which.  Keep a sharp eye out for these so you'll know if you're getting the original or a recent reproduction when the time comes to buy.

But I thought that was the whole point.  :o
If it relates to what someone is searching for, why shouldn't he post it here?... or in both?  :-\
I don't want to break the rules. Please explain, and remember, I'm kinda new here. :(

Hey sharpie, Don is particularly anal about post placement.  It keeps the boards clean and makes it really easy to look for stuff using the search function.  I agree the purpose of this thread is to have someone come out of the woodwork and make your "White Whale" a reality.  With that being said I reached out to a member earlier about my White Whale via PM.  I knew Don would tell me it was in the wrong place if I just replied here.  You just have to get used to hitting off a different pitcher.  Hope this helps.

Looks like a nice deal. Both Madison and Ellusionist have already seen plenty of my photos. I would rather not use them for deck giveaways.
