"Voyages Extraordinares.
In late January, expect the latest from Club 808: the Jules Verne Deck. Featuring characters and artwork from the stories that comprise the Voyages Extraordinares, this deck is a beautiful tribute to a literary genius who influenced generations of science fiction writers, filmmakers, and fans. See above for some of the early sketches and designs."

the update also goes on to say...

"An all-new Club 808 layout.
In the new year, expect to see some refreshing changes at Club 808. Including:

A new homepage layout that makes navigation a snap.
A member spotlight page where we’ll feature YOU and the things you love about playing cards.
An archive of our 2013 Decks.
    And plenty more.

Stay tuned for more details!"

Hmmmm... "An archive of our 2013 Decks."

Does that mean the 2013 decks will not be available??

Personally I'm looking forward to the deck and it will be interesting to see what changes they will be implementing.

Anyone receive anything about how to renew yet?

Side note, I won the recent contest, set of tumblers and 4 espionage decks.   :bosswalk:

Lucky beggar!

I wouldn't worry about the renewal - I'm sure they will let everyone know when the time comes.

But a Jules Verne deck...  The idea was already tackled in one way or another by two companies, one of them being Bent Castle.  I hope that their take on it is original.

I like where you're going with the sketches & agree that there should be something special about it outside of 'ol JV.
I liked the Bent Castle deck a lot and it was one of the sources of inspiration for my own deck. Maybe take a look at that one for ideas.
If you look at the wikipedia page on your subject, you might get some ideas:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyages_Extraordinaires

Some things that come to mind for me:

54 novels matches a deck with 2 jokers pretty exactly. You could somehow make each card representative of a different novel, though I suppose that could get messy and very laborious
geology, biology, astronomy, paleontology, oceanography - each suit could be representative of one of those, and then jokers + 2 extra cards could be representative of the 5th subject

I don't mind several versions of a Jules Verne styled deck. Different artists should make the end result unique enough.
So far, this one looks like a winner and it's on my list. 8)

It's not a deck he's creating, it's a bicycle club 808 deck

I'm reasonably certain Steampunk doesn't know what that is.

Club 808 is a sort of a fan club put together by USPC about a year ago.  When it started, they'd post monthly articles and interviews on a members-only website and they started a VIP Store run through their subsidiary, Wingra Direct (shopbicyclecards.com).  Wingra actually manages the membership payments as well.    Over the course of the past year, they've offered a handful of "members-only" decks in that store, limited to print runs of 5,000.  This deck under discussion is one they're working on to release next year.

The updates started monthly, became twice-monthly and now they're working on revamping the website for next year.  It's actually a very nice deal - memberships are under $20 a year, and they've even sent out a few freebies, such as the Club's own members deck and (for "Play More Cards Day") an entire kit for hosting a playing card party including a brick of Bicycle Standards (the modern packaging for the Rider Back).  They also hold monthly contests and more than a few members here have won them.

Actually that would be kind of cool to have a series of decks, each representing a different JV Novel. As in all of these types of ventures, it just needs the right creative approach. Looking forward to seeing and heaing more about this project.

Picked up my allotment.  Even though it's a blatant one way back design, I kinda dig it.

I got mine, too.  Too bad these don't seem to be selling out quickly enough for them to be living up to the previous two decks 100 limit on uncut sheets, which is a bummer.  The Amber Stag and Espionage uncut sheets were the fastest sell-outs in product "Club 808" and ShopBicycleCards, com had ever had.  Only 100, I sold two Amber Stag uncut sheets for $130 total, the one Espionage uncut sheet for $50.  The Espionage one came at Black Friday (was it?  Maybe Cyber Monday?) prices of 25% off, so paid $7.49 each for those, along with some more Cigar back deck uncut sheets - I notice those are sold out recently, still show up available but if you try to buy any it shows "No Longer Available".  I have a total of 4 of those left after selling two for $35 each.  I'm not especially fond of the Espionage uncut, it's just too dark.  The Cigar deck is great, and the Amber Stag is among the best new back designs Bicycle itself has come out with in a while, and - yes, I know that's not saying a whole lot these days.  Maybe Jackson will spice up the selection?  I sure hope so!

Maybe on the 16th, I'm thinking I read somewhere in their literature.  They are putting out two "Club 808" notifications per month, now - makes sense.

Should get them on presale.  They're running 20% off everything for 808 members as a valentines special.

Sure gotta LOVE all these promos this time of year.  Pun intended.

Yep, very much so, actually I just managed to snag one of the first ones (that I am aware of anyway) along with a "Vikings/Iceland" deck that I have a pix for, to the best of my knowledge it's made in France and I'm thinking mid-80's?  Sorry, not so great a pix and clearly off-topic in this particular thread.

I forgot to mention that the manufacturer is Grimaud (sp?)

Oooooooo I like that much better than the current Bicycle version.

I like to call paper coatings a finish. It makes Don happy.
