  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

I like these decks for their quality, but I couldn't wrap my head around the idea of using a deck back covered with sleight-of-hand images for magic or poker...

I'll choose Smith because it's simpler.

I went acorn back. I feel it's more appealing to the eye.

Both are good. Just about anything from the CARC is a win. But if I had to choose, I'd go Acorn.

I had to chose the Acorn's but to be more specific.. Black Acorn Ivory Finish.  Id have to say CARC makes a large percentage of my favorite decks handling wise.  Design wise everyone has their own likes and dislikes.  Im not in love the mini slight of hand designs but the Acorns add a classic feel that distracts you from the annoying back and to me actually makes it look pretty nice.

If you're talking about the black and silver Ivory Acorn Back, that has the additional distinction, to the best of my knowledge, of being the first smooth-finish deck with the Magic Finish coating on it.  When Magic Finish was introduced, it was practically mandatory for decks with metallic ink, as it was believed by many that metallic inks caused a deck to take a hit in performance, likely perpetuated by the Bicycle decks Stephen Rooks created through Diavoli.  Magic Finish has a distinctive smell, and I would swear I could smell it on that deck when I opened it.  At that time, many decks with Magic Finish weren't always labeled as such, and this was no exception.

But the one person who could say definitively whether this was the case would be Bill Kalush...one of our newer members here!

I agree! I know the small and it is easy to distinguish.  In a blind sniff test Im willing to say id be 100% accurate in sniffing the Magic Finish test.

Acorn, I like the inner border and reversed background. It creates more of a solid shape out of the pattern than the Smith one, which I find more appealing.
