MASH was a huge show. 11 seasons starting in 1972, with the final episode in 1983 being the most watched program ever in the US until Super Bowl XLII- 2008

Yeah, good show.  I killed a lot of hours as a kid watching it.  It did get a little too serious at the end, with nowhere near enough comedy, black or otherwise - if they didn't give it a proper ending, it would have died under its own weight eventually.  The aging cast were probably a factor as well - the show ran more than three times longer than the war it depicted!

Monty Python,Knight Rider, the Original Battlestar Galactica (although I liked the new one too), Star Trek (Original), Batman (Original), Speed Racer, Space 1999 (I was so disappointed that 1999 came and we were still driving POS's, lol), and to see how old you really are...The Magician w/Bill Bixby, while on Bill Bixby, The Incredible Hulk.

I'm afraid I was brought up on the original Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon which, IMO, was only superior storyline quality.

If we're including cartoons, I vote for:

- Sharkey and George

- Once Upon A Time ... Life

- The Magic Schoolbus

The first was a cartoon about two crime-fighting fish, a shark and what I believe was a flounder (based on his colouration looking the same as the 'Little Mermaid' character).

The other 2 were biology and general science, respectively, cartoons which explained scientific concepts very well without having to use technical jargon. I have to say that it was these that got me really interested in science, and I have not seen such well made cartoons aimed at such a young demographic since. Quite unfortunate.

Someone asked about a really old show. Don you might remember this one. It was called "The Rat Patrol" It was filmed in the 60's. I remember watching reruns probably late 70's.  The story was about 4 soldiers in two jeeps that were  on dessert patrol in North Africa during WW II. They would do surprise attacks on German forces. When my cousin and I would play with matchbox cars, we would pretend to be The Rat Patrol.

Do kids even play with matchbox cars anymore?

I remember watching reruns probably late 70's.  The story was about 4 soldiers in two jeeps that were  on dessert patrol in North Africa during WW II. They would do surprise attacks on German forces. When my cousin and I would play with matchbox cars, we would pretend to be The Rat Patrol.

Do kids even play with matchbox cars anymore?

Yes, they do.  They have new tracks for small homes - you hang them on the wall with 3M Command instead of laying them all over the floor.  No more tripping on tracks and cars!

I remember Rat Patrol more as a piece of history rather than something I watched.

The oldest memory I have as a child is from around age two - watching the Apollo lunar landing live on TV.
