I have to agree with your concern, Josh.  Cello wrappers, being plastic, do off-gas over time.  I have also found many(!) decks where the tuck box or the cards themselves (when the deck is wrapped) are bent from too tight of a wrapper.
That's a good observation. The cello over time can hurt the cards. Also we have found some where they cards look mint in the old cello type wrappers that have obviously let moisture in as the cards are stuck to each other!

I see something like this being very useful. This is just a mock-up I made from 2 mil Mylar. It is neither hard nor soft while being rigid enough to maintain its form. It is lightweight, crystal clear, and has all the benefits of long term storage inherent to Mylar. In essence it is a glorified Mylar tuckcase for storage.

That would be a great way to protect the decks I store in drawers while still being able to see what they are. Wouldn't take up much room either.

Josh, would you be interested in posting a how-to in the DIY section of UC?
