Did you know that during the game of gin at the Fontainebleau Hotel poolside, Auric Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe) and his opponent play with a deck of red Aristocrat 727 Banknote playing cards?

Read more here. Seems someone over at BondLifestyle must like playing cards.

Hey that's pretty cool!

Usually when you see people playing cards in tv and film, not surprisingly featured in many prison scenes, you see they are using the humble rider back.

Did you guys happen to notice that they actually link back to us at the bottom of the article, to the following topic?

http://aethercards.com/discourse/working-title-a-cellar-of-fine-vintages/aristocrat-history-and-different-backs/

More Bond stuff - when "Casino Royale" was released, Cartamundi manufactured the casino's decks for the movie, the extras of which were packaged for sale and can still be found.  To be clear, the decks are from the casino in Europe named "Casino Royale", not the casino seen earlier in the film in the Bahamas.  They're on Amazon now; one seller has them on liquidation for $3.40 a pack.

Somewhere on here, there's a topic where someone was inquiring about a different pack of cards, ones that were used for a game of baccarat in a Bond film, but we couldn't find enough information on them to identify them.  The cards were longer than standard and index-less.

The tarot deck used in "Live and Let Die" is still for sale today.  It's the "Tarot of the Witches," sold by US Games Systems.  There's also an official "prop replica" version, which contains only 22 cards  - 7 of which are copies of "The Lovers", just like in the movie.

I think Don has pointed this out countless time, but Bee decks are super popular in Asia so I'm more use to seeing Bee decks in Hong Kong cinema way more.

I'm curious as to what happened with the 727s in Goldfinger. I wonder if the prop people kept it, but got the cast to sign it. That'd be a pretty cool thing to see up for auction if it exist at all.

This may be off topic but recently I saw Dallas Buyers Club and the scene where the two main characters bond for the first time involves a game of cards using what I think is a deck of Blue Marlboro Texans!

Does anyone else get a real sense of pride when they are able to pick out these meaningless details?

Odds are that it was used, abused and disposed of in the end.  While some props are specialized and made custom for a specific feature (especially something requiring unique gadgets like a Bond film), most other props are basic and common - furniture, tableware, appliances, some decor items like signs, rugs and paintings, etc.; any non-fixture, non-clothing items used to dress the set and make the location look real - and are rented (or for disposables, purchased) from prop companies, usually with the input of the set designer.  Prop companies do retain their props for other features when possible, but for something as cheap and dispensable as a pack of cards, I'd wager they wouldn't have thought twice about discarding and replacing it.  Probably some Teamster ended up with it and used it to play poker during breaks...
