Nice,  though the back design with the circular design being cut by card sides reminds me of......wait wait......oh yeah that deck that I got one of last night!!! (normally I wouldn't gloat, but I am just really happy that I was logged on at the right moment to get one of the first Encarded Zenith. )  8)

More on topic, seriously, I don't remember seeing this circle design intersecting edges thing till Zenith. Anybody? Maybe I only noticed it then....

Anyway, even if so,  I'm not accusing the deck designers here of anything, because it really seems to be common for ideas to be floating around and pop up simultaneously in different places. But it is interesting.

I noticed this, too, but aside from the circle design, it has a completely different look from Zenith. Other design elements look very different, at least to me.

The circles are actually a piece of sacred geometry called the "flower of life".

Erik Mana also used it in his new Mana deck.

It's in cool concept, but I actually don't think the design is interesting. It's certainly detailed, and very well done, but it kind of looks like something you'd see on a tapestry.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

A few thoughts on this...

The name "Occults" seems out of place here, particularly after seeing the courts and spot cards.

The courts seem to have a smattering of elements from cultures all over the world - but not enough of any one to make a solid connection.

I do NOT like the font they chose for the indices.  It looks more like it belongs on a deck called "Bicycle Varsity."

What's with the weapons?  EVERY court has a weapon, ranging from a samurai sword to a baseball bat with nails in it - why?  It's such a mishmash.  Perhaps "Bicycle Rumble" would have been better?  There is one card, the Queen of Diamonds, that is without a weapon, opting instead to wield a hand mirror.  Again, why?

This is not one of their better decks.  We've seen better from them so we know they're capable of it.

I think the courts are the same as the Double Black deck that they launched on kickstarter a little over a month or so ago

I don't think the courts are unique to the theme of the deck. But I could be wrong.

That's what I thought too when I saw the crying Queen of Clubs. I'm too lazy to verify it though.

Yes,  it's the same. The artist had sold the license to this over to Circle City Cards,  which was bought by Gambler's Warehouse,  who now also owns the license.  They came out with Double Black, but people expressed a desire for the original colored courts,  too,  so they came up with this deck.  They also contacted the artist so he could create the additional designs for the rest of the decks and tuck box.

Those Gambler's Warehouse folks seem to be buying up everything in sight.  First was Gembler's General Store, renamed to the Warehouse.  Then we spotted that they bought out Brooke Michael's Poker World.  Now the Circle City Card Company?  At the rate they're going, USPC will be their next purchase!

Does anyone know if they bought up any other companies as well?

Sorry,  I was mistaken.  Then didn't buy CCC.  They only bought the art from CCC.  *embarrassed face*

I bought in, as I liked the Double Blacks, and also wished for a color version.  Plus, the full-bleed back looks pretty nice, and fans will be spectacular, like a couple other decks out recently.

I do hope the font gets changed, though, as Don mentioned, it looks rather collegiate.

GW also picked up the art for 4PM Design's "Legacy" decks, which they are producing themselves.
There are no 3's in rousselle. There are, however, two s's, two l's, two e's (but not in a row), an r, an o, and a u.

This is an interesting deck.  I'm really not sure what the images have to do with the Occult except for the all seeing eye on the tuck.  The colours remind me of Australian Aboriginal art.  I'm very picky about court card designs as they often look too inherent to the process of computer creation these days.  Too modern, and cartoony.  I haven't seen a modern variation on the face designs of court cards that I have really responded to.

I guess there is a trend towards the mystery arts of late.  I'm also part of that trend, I'm never sure how to feel about that.  Ha.  I used the all seeing eye as well, so that feels weird.

So, if I recall correctly, the designer of this deck has noted elsewhere that the idea behind the name is not so much about mysticism, as about  secrets and things "hidden from view." (This is the third definition in the Webster's I have.) So, the deck designer pluralized the name, as would do if he were to name the deck, "Secrets."

I take this to mean that the deck has some hidden features.

I like the way the deck is shaping up; the designer has responded to comments on the project and has made some tweaks to the cards. He's made the indices narrower, and expanded the size of the courts. It's looking pretty sharp, imho.

There are no 3's in rousselle. There are, however, two s's, two l's, two e's (but not in a row), an r, an o, and a u.

Happy to see the changes.  I may just add the limited deck.  I like the darker color scheme on the backs.

Name is still a bit weird, but with so many decks out there, it's hard to have an original name, I guess.  I can almost see the name making sense.

These decks are printed, and half way through shipping.

If you missed out, they have them listed on Ebay

Nice, the LE tuck looks better than I thought it would.  :)
Part of my Collection updated infrequently but occasionally, when I remember. (I haven't in months.)
